Hi,

I am first time poster on this forum, but have been a long time reading posts etc. I have crohns disease for the last 30 years had ups and downs but mostly am ok. So here is my problem. In the last few days my bowel movements ( well diahria) has been black in colour. I have been experiencing bloating also. I was just wondering if any of ye out there went through this and if so what was your diagnosis. Thanks so much for reading. :-)

Hi Brigman, we welcome your first post and are glad you decided to "speak up".

After 30 years and reading here for any length of time I'm pretty sure you know what that black BM usually means. *sigh* Heaven only knows a simple BM sample submitted to the lab can give you an answer about blood in the BM. Of course, if blood is indicated we know that means further investigation and less pleasant testing. But .... better to know and deal than stick our heads in the sand and get a NASTY surprise one day. *sigh*

Hey :p

Have you started iron supplements recently? Iron can make your stools black. Otherwise... could be a sign of upper GI bleeding. You'd better get it checked out, tbh :-/

Thanks so much for replies. I have not been on iron supplements. I will make appointment with my specialist next week and let ye know how I get on. Tks again

And, Brigman, if you can't get a timely appointment w/your specialist that simple stool sample exam for occult blood can easily be ordered by your family doctor.

By the way, the only reason I edited your original post was to give this thread a Subject title.
