Well here we go again.  I have the scan coming up on Friday morning and have to start clear fluids tomorrow evening (Wed)  On the Instruction sheet they sent, they say Boost is an acceptable form of clear fluid.  What about Ensure?   Just what form of Boost is acceptable?  What about Boost or Ensure plus? 

Also it doesn't matter what color popsicles and jello we have when it comes to a CT scan does it?  Think I have been avoiding reds in the last scans,  it probably doesn't matter but it's good to know?.   I recall with some of my tests in the past, I had to forgo certain colors, could have been with the small bowel follow thru or was it the colonoscopy?

Who ever runs your imaging lab sure is vindictive, CT's are color sensitive? New one for me. They are starting your prep early in my experience. My last one started at 10 am the day before. Does the ensure have something that absorbs the radiation that will hinder the scan?
I though colors were for the scope tests. I always argue with the schedules, I usually get them changed by a couple of hours.

No one told me to avoid colors, this is a personal question that I am questioning.

Also because my doctor knows that I have severe diarrhea he doesn't make me take anything to clean out, just asks me to start fluids a few hours earlier.

I don't remember having to do a prep...just stopping eating and drinking for several hours before the test and then drinking the contrast stuff just before the test. I pulled some random instructions off the internet and it seems to say the same thing I remember: http://www.berkshirehealthsystems.org/prepforabdominalandpelvicctscan

I think the colors don't matter. Good luck with the test

Thank you, I've had other tests that I had to drink that awful laxative stuff. Think that was for the small bowel follow through, so I assumed that is why the doctor has me started on clear fluids earlier for the CT as well, so I wouldn't have to use the stuff, but must be confusing it with the other bowel tests I had. Sorry, about using the word prep, I call the clear fluids preparing for the CT scan. Thank you for letting me know about the colors and also for the well wishes.

I can't say for sure regarding the CT scan, BUT ... for a colonoscopy Dr May always told us Boost okay but NOT the Plus. The Plus is NOT considered a clear liquid, the Plus in it does interfere w/the scope the next day.

Actually there is one CT scan that you do have to do an actual prep before. It is called a CT colongraphy, also known as a virtual colonoscopy. With this test you need to do a prep by taking a laxative to clean out the colon before you drink the contrast. This also includes taking a fluid diet the day before the test.
