I'm not a Crohns expert and I'd like to know something:

Is it recommended to take maintenance drugs with Crohns? Even if the flares are rather mild?

Hi yes, you have to. Inflammation can be acting throughout the layers of the colon. You might feel in remission but it might be lurking below.

It is recommended to continue maintenance meds even if you may be feeling fine.

A lot of people on here think if your not in pain youn't need anything. You will always need a maintance drug tot your chrons if you are lucky enough to receive remission. That is my goal for evetyday PLEASE FIND A CURE OR A DRUG THAT WILL HELP.

Yes, it's recommended.

But my answer is a little different to everyone else's. I think that sometimes you can come off maintenance meds safely, with certain provisos, and preferably not a biologic. My longer answer is here if you really wanna know more... >.>

PS: I should add that 'mild' Crohn's or UC does not always stay that way. You should never ignore even mild active disease.

I thought I was going in and out of remission over the last several years. I was only taking Asacol and would go on Prednisone when my symptoms got bad. What I didn't realize was that the Asacol was doing absolutely nothing, and I probably was never in remission. Here I thought I had a mild disease, and turned out everything was in very bad shape in there. I was pretty shocked because I really didn't always feel that bad, but it was cooking me in there good.

So yes, I'd recommend medication, even when feeling well. I also recommend keeping good tabs on the disease, since we can't see what's going on in there!

I am having a hard time with my chrons.have been in the hospital twice this summer for a total of 4 weeks. Trying to get the right med is driving my GI crazy. Right now Asacol HD is the only chrons drug I can handle. Was on 6MP but thats why I was in the hospital for 3 weeks.. it caused me to have a toxic liver. I was very sick. Had to have my gall bladder removed. 3 liters of fluid was removed from around the liver that the liver couldn't process. Now yesterday I find out I am to sick to try humiira. it is so frustrating I don't know what to do.. Thanks for letting me compliant here. :))

Hi there scifigal & everyone on the forums. I've been very busy helping my mom with going to her chemo treatments, surgery, radiation and now further chemo treatments for breast cancer. She had been diagnosed last summer.
I wish I could say things have been good but not so much. shakehead

I hope that you're doing, great and hope you're feeling great too.
