2nd c.diff infection...........

I was hospitalized July w/CD flare. Fistulas in left side and an abscess in lower right side. Tested positive for c.diff.
Hospitalized 9.14.13 for severe whole abdominal pain and cramping. No diarrhea. Cat-Scan showed same as above. Had to wait 36 hours for a stool sample to come out, again tested positive for c.diff.
Can you have c.diff w/o 20-30 bloody stools?
I am very confused with this diagnosis........

My son battled C-Diff for quiet a while he did have loose watery stool, but he was only going about two or three times a day and no blood. Always knew when he was relapsing as the stool had a horrible odor from it and he was really fatigued. Took several rounds of antibiotics until he finally got rid of it.

Hopefully with antibiotic treatment you will be able to clear it up quick.

Yes, the first time I had c.diff I was predominantly nauseated, with abdominal pain, frequent stools but not D. I am currently on Vancomycin after having severe D after antibiotics for a cat bite. My stool tests were negative this time, but my doc is treating me anyway based on my history. Once you have a bout of c.diff I think you are more prone to getting it again. What medicine are you on? I hope you feel better soon!

The first bout in July was treated with metronidazole and cipro. Then was hospitalized and given liquid vanco. I, at that time was having 20-30 bloody(sorry TMI) stools. This time only 2-6 semi-formed stools, nothing like last time.
This time in hospital was given IV vanco, another antibiotic that I can not remember ( I think it started with a z or v) and liquid vanco every 12 hours.
I was discharged 9.17.13 with metronidazole 500mg every 8 hours for 14 days.
Have been on met/cipro since July and finished up 9.6.13.

Kobesmom,

It took my son 6 months to finally have negative stool tests. All the antibiotics were making him feel lousy and driving him crazy especially when he was not getting better. Finally after several rounds of vanco and a taper that lasted for weeks he kicked it.

Thank you all for your posts. The resource sites were very informative.
What probiotics should I take? I have never taken any.
A nurse at the hospital questioned me about fecal implants. I will ask my GI next week at my follow up appt.

Florastor is a yeast based probiotic that is supposed to be protective against c.diff. Make sure to take it about two hours apart from your antibiotics.
