6mp and allopurinol

I was on 150mg of of 6mp and doing pretty well and gaining weight (currently 190). I started to have a flare and had blood tests done. My doctor told me my levels of metabolite are a little high although liver tests normal.

She switched me to 50mg of 6mp and added 100 of allopurinol. This was about 3 weeks ago. I have now tanked. Has anyone taken both and had good success???? Please let me know what your levels were/are. I want to ask my doctor to increase my 6mp.

I've not taken allopurinol with 6mp; my husband takes allopurinol to help prevent uric acid kidney stones so I'm familiar with the medication at least from that perspective. It may be hard to know if the drop of the 6mp is the cause of your "tanking", which I would suspect, or if it's the allopurinol. My husband takes 300mg of allopurinol, so 100mg is at least on the lower side.

I saw a mention of allopurinol use on this forum just this week so in the meantime you may be able to search for it. Hopefully someone else will give you some more information.

Allopurinol is not to be taken with 6MP as a general rule. If you do use the 2 together, you are only supposed to take about 25% of the normal 6MP dose.

I'm going off the Allopurinol asap. This combo has been a nightmare. Anyone thinking about it, rethink it. This combo has put my body into a tailspin. One thing about this is the doctors can't tell you how much this is going to boost your 6MP. It's a guessing game. never again.
