It has been awhile since I have posted to the site. I have been lucky enough to be in remission for three years after being diagnosed with mild crohns. I have to admit some days it does not feel so mild.
I started tapering down on my Lialda in January from 4 tablets a day to 2 tablets a day with the approval of my dr. All seemed well except I did notice once a month around my period I would get a day or two of inflammation then it would go away. I noticed as the months went on it slowly would be more days out of the month. I stupidly ignored it thinking as long as I am ok most days of the month I can handle it. I went on vacation to Canada for two weeks and literally had no pain, no symptoms other than my usual bowel issues. Once I got home inflammation settled in and never went away completely. I upped my Lialda back to four a day and by the time I saw my dr I was feeling much better. Then two weeks later inflammation settled in again. My lab work shows my C-reactive protein was very high as were my white blood cell counts. The dr is now prescribing five days of prednisone and also prescribing Entocort to try to induce remission again as this worked last time.
I am trying to count my blessings because I know there are many people that are much worse off than me but it is had when you go to bed in pain and wake up in pain. I also think the reality of this beast being able to reassert itself at any time hit home. It was easy to live in denial when I felt good.
Sorry for the rambling post but I don't like to be too detailed about my pain with my family. They get very worried which in turn stresses me so thank you for letting me vent.
