I have lived with fatigue since childhood so I don't really know what it's like to not be fatigued. I guess we can pick it apart, but Crohn's disease causes fatigue. It doesn't matter what I take food-wise, supplement-wise or medication-wise (except prednisone maybe) or what I do or don't do, it's just there.
I have never been able to hold a paying job for more than a few months without hitting the proverbial wall and having to quit, but as I am married with a husband to support me financially, well, it's a different issue for me--more that we have to be quite frugal.
But my daughter is in your shoes, or was, because her chronic illness did finally stop her and she's been unable to work for the last 5 years. She initially took a medical leave at her university. She kept hoping she would be able to get back to grad school but at this point we're just hoping we can keep her alive (I'm not being facetious either). She relies on us entirely as she's not on any type of disability and has no insurance.
Resting, like your doctor recommended, is about the only thing that helps me.
