Crohns (IBD) & IBS? Need some advice

Hey all, I am a 25 year old male with a history of uc. Since January i have been having terrible pain in my lower left quad, running to the thrown non stop, lower back pain, vomiting & nausea. Yesterday I went to my gi in Brooklyn NY ( I live in Lakewood NJ) for a colonoscopy & endoscopy. He thinks I have Crohns & Ibs. He as well said I have Esophagitis, partial obstruction, and found a 18 mm nodule. I have been on 6MP for about 5 weeks. He saying that im not responding to the 6 mp..... and that for now stay on it till all the biopsies come back which is in a week. He is as well reffering me to a Crohns specialist in Cornell in NY city to possibly be put on Humira. There has to be something out there to take away my pain and make me feel better. I have been out of work for 3 weeks and just feel as if my life has been robbed from me. I feel lost & that I will never get back to my young energetic self. I dont see the light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone have any advice?

Hi Shea, sorry you're not feeling well.  Just an FYI, there is a group of doctors in NJ (Hackensack Digestive Disease Associates) that specialize in IBD.  They work out of Hackensack Medical University which is one of the best around.  I understand traveling can be stressful, just in case you're looking for a closer doctor.

Welcome to the club! It's certainly a club I don't want anyone to join, but welcome anyways.

Firstly, I am so sorry to hear you're dealing with this. It's not fun. Definitely allow yourself to get upset. Grief is a natural part of the diagnosis for some (not all) who have chronic illness. People cope with it differently, but if you find yourself unable to come out of a slump, definitely look into seeing someone who specializes in coping with illness. In the meantime though, I suggest doing little things that make you happy.

Secondly, I would start with the referred doc, and then see how you feel about them. You might love them or you might decide you want to change. Luckily, you're close to many major metropolitan areas, so you should have quite a few choices.

Finally, do not give up hope yet! Unfortunately, it can take some time for medications to kick in. Also, it can take some time to find the right combo of drugs for you. I've gone through several different medications (I am apparently sensitive to everything, ever). It can be very frustrating, but keep working with your doctors to find options for you.
