Dr told me that baed on colonoscopy and scan that I have chrons and he wants to discuss meds with me. I am 71 years old and asymtomatic.

If I were you with no symptoms, I would stay as far away from meds as possible. You may consider cleaning up your diet a little but again, I personally would leave well enough alone until I had symptoms.

Crohns Meds are not fun especially prednisone. If you don't have any symptoms why treat it? That's a question. I'm no doc but maybe inquire about diet etc before you take Meds?

I think you need more information from your doctor. Ask exactly where the Crohn's is located (what part of your intestines) and how severe he believes it to be. Also, you may want to find out if your lab work looks ok. Specifically, ask about anemia, inflammation markers, and white blood count. If you have a great deal of inflammation, or a stricture or a fistula, then you may want to consider medication. If it is only mild disease, then you may want to watch and wait. I suggest you go to the Crohn's and colitis website at www.ccfa.org. Read about Crohn's disease and develop a list of questions. Crohn's can be very mild, but it can be serious, even with no symptoms. I think you need more information in order to make an informed decision.

I agree with gumby that more information is needed. And I would also challenge you about the "no symptoms" statement. Some of the symptoms of Crohn's are often fobbed off onto other things - back pain? joint pain? stiffness? Fatigue? These are all likely due to Crohn's. Anemic? low vitamin D? Crohn's.

Mesalamine (Pentasa if you have ileitis) is a low risk medication that might get you over the hump, so to speak. Same with entocort, at least for a brief spell.

I have gastritis which includes reflux. I am afraid the medications will exacerbate my upper gi issues.

Gastritis is another lovely attribute of Crohn's for many people. Do you know where your inflammation is?
