Ladies with Crohn's disease on birth control

I would like to try again with birth control pill. I had the worst reaction with Orth Tri Cyclen sending me into a flare up on the second pill . I have had Crohn's since I was 12 and I am 23 now . I got married in 2012 and I have been using VCF films. They are great and no side effects but having not to stop to put it in would be nice. I have allergies to so many med's for CD its a good few pages long . Is there a good safe birth control for really sensitive Crohn's to any med's. I am leary about the pill but will try it out again for may be good or the last time.

I have tried the pill many times to no avail. I actually just quit lutera because it caused me severe constipation and bloating. Yaz was probably the best one I was ever on but it made my heart race. If you find a good one please let me know.

I don't have CD but would you consider an intrauterine device? There a tons of options other than pills. You can do patches that you change once a week too.

I had a Mirena IUD placed 18 months ago, not for BC per se but for perimenopausal hemoraging. Since it has stopped my periods it's actually easier on my CD -- no issues at all for me.

I use Seasonique with no problems.

I've been on Sprintec and Previfem and have been ok.

I got to thinking last August about when I really felt WELL. The answer was 9 yrs ago, just before I got pregnant with my daughter, and throughout that pregnancy. I started feeling bad when she was small. I thought that the one glaring difference was that back then, I was on hormonal birth control. (I did not go back on it after having her for religious reasons). So, I decided that I would try the same as I was on before--the NUVARING. Unfortunately, it was too late for me, and I ended up with surgery to remove an abscess and blockage within a few weeks, but since that's been out, I have been back on the Nuvaring and with the exception of this stupid ostomy, I have felt GREAT and my CD is in remission.

There are some studies that say hormonal BCP can cause CD to flare, so ymmv...but, I am doing well on it.

I was originally on Yaz, and it was great. Really helped with my periods (long, heavy, and stupid painful cramps).

I wanted to have no period, so I went on the Depo shot. Unfortunately, I was one of the folks who had a side-effect of a never-ending period. Supposedly, you can wait it out (and I know people who have), but after a month of light bleeding every day, I was over it. For the 6+ months it worked though, it was heavenly. No pill, no nothing!

I'm now on Emoquette. It is supposed to help with acne, and the unfortunate hairs I have found growing on my chin. They seemed to pop up overnight! It has definitely helped with the acne and hair. We think it's just some kind of hormonal thing, and the Emoquette is supposed to help with that.

I have the implant in my arm just under the skin called Implanon have no side effects with it also, its so much easier than having to remember to take a tablet each morning, it lasts for 3 years, removed & then a new one put in

estrogen isn't great for people with IBD, we are at an increased risk for DVT and stroke... I would look into an IUD or estrogen-free mini-pill.

The problem with pills is that if you are on antibiotics it will interfere. I know some people and even doctors say that's an old wives' tale, but I was on birth control and got pregnant when I went on antibiotics for c. diff. Since people with CD take antibiotics a lot, you'll need to use another form of BC if that happens.

To avoid this and to avoid having to remember to take a pill each day (the mini pill has to be taken at the exact same time every day in order to work), I get an injection every 3 months call Depo-Provera.

I have the paragard IUD and like it. I never noticed my Crohn's being affected by my hormone birth control, but I wanted to try something non-hormonal for my overall health.

I used to be on Ortho Tri Cylcen and then OTC lo and both were horrible! I had my period for over a week and I'd spend half of it in the bathroom with horrible upset tummy and vomiting.

I have since switched to BeYaz and LOVE it! It is a pill and I don't even get my period anymore!! If I do, it's barely there, so it's awesome. No other symptoms either!
