Removal of seton question

Last winter, I developed a perianal fistula and a seton drain was put in. In June I started Humira which has--at long last--completely stopped the fistula from draining (YAY!). I think that it's now probably time to see my Colo-rectal surgeon to get the drain removed.

Has anyone ever had this done? Do they just cut the seton and pull it out and let you heal? Or is it more involved than that? After seton removal, did the fistula come back or did it heal properly?

I appreciate any insights or information. =)

When my perianal fistula healed (through remicade) the seton was taken out at outpatients.  A simple cut of the seton, bit of a tug (as NY-Sooner says skin had formed round it) and seton was out.  It was sore for a couple of days, but no other problems than that.  This was around 4 years ago, and "touch wood" it has stayed healed since with no medications.

I was put on Remicade after a seton was put into a rectovaginal fistula. about a month later, we removed the seton with the hopes that the Remicade would heal the fistula. It almost did, but then I got pancreatitis and c. diff. twice, and all sorts of flares from all of that. All of the D from everything re-opened the fistula and it didn't really ever heal up, so we put a seton back in. I've now had the seton in for over a year and am happy to leave it in indefinitely. I keep getting c. diff. and flares because of other health problems, so I don't think the fistula would be able to heal right now anyway. Then I got C from pregnancy, which is almost worse than the D when it comes to the fistula because everything is bigger and harder to push out, which puts pressure on the fistula and stretches it more open.
