i do all my care at mayo in MN. i'm not dead, so obviously they did something right. ive never had any bad experience with them, aside from a few billing department mishaps. which were easily straightened out.
savedbygrace isn't wrong about
mayo being known for cancer, but that's because everyone knows about
cancer. Mayo is one of the top 10 hospitals in the world. Those same 10 pretty much just trade places with each other based on specialties.
Their GI department is skillful, professional, and caring. And they have access to most clinical trials. And Mayo gets a LOT of people coming in from out of town, so the whole city of Rochester has grown to cater to that need (as well as that of IBM, the other huge employer in town). Plenty of hotels, most of which have shuttle services to the Mayo campus and, for longer stays, grocery stores etc.
One of the few things Mayo's actually not great at is routine care (all the normal stuff primary care physicians do for normal people), which is why most non-Mayo employees go to the local clinics for that. But Crohn's is not routine, so have no fear! They'll take care of you.
If you'd like I could call the GI staff there and ask one of them to call you and answer any questions you might have. I dunno if they'd do it, because there might be rules against it, but it's worth a shot if it'd help you feel better about
the whole thing.
edit: actually, when looking it up to make sure i'm not making a fool of myself, I discovered Mayo is actually ranked ahead of Cleveland right now.
Source. But, like I said, they just trade places based on specialty. I should add they also trade places based on time, too. They bump each other around, but none ever really drops out of the top 10 or so.
