Bad and unexpected news today....

I just need to get this off my chest, dont feel like worrying my family. My GI doc called me this morning from his cell phone....on his day off...on Easter. He said my pill camera that was done on Thursday afternoon looks like its stuck based on the pictures. Also he said that my small bowel looks terrible, the worst he has seen in a long time and stated it looked like "hamburger". I am currently tapering from Predisone 40mg which had no effect. Doc talked about trying out Humira or Remicade again which I am hopeful about. It was unexpected news because my colonoscopy from thursday looked good. So x-ray tomorrow to look for the pill and upper endoscopy soon to biopsy the colon. If anyone has any similar stories let me know! Thanks!

What is the plan to remove the camera? Does "upper endoscopy" mean "double balloon endoscopy" to get the pillcam? Or is there a resection in your near future?

so sorry that you've had this complication. They make a pillcam patency tablet that you can swallow before the pillcam to make sure the bowel has enough room to pass it. I guess it's good to know where the problem is, and glad your GI thought to investigate beyond the colonoscopy.

The doc talked about doing a double balloon endoscopy regardless of the pillcam so he can investigate more thoroughly and take biopsies, so I am not sure how they are going to go after the pillcam. It doesn't feel like anything is stuck or obstructed but I guess thats a good thing. I did take the pillcam patency tablet two days prior to the study and that passed so I was surprised when the real one got stuck. I have had crohn's for 9 years now and it has been relatively minor (except for trying almost every drug out there) with no surgery yet and I am really hoping to avoid surgery if I can.
