Flagyl and Hairy Tongue Part III

I took flagyl 3 weeks ago, the taste in my mouth would not go away until someone told me to crush probiotic and take it with a spoon of water right before bed time. It works like a miracle, this is third day im taking it and the taste is almost completely gone!
Dairy free, sugar free diet will speed up the process.

when i took flagyl the feeling on your tongue is extremly anoying and my whole tongue was white. i only had to take it for a few months so i just delt with it. it seemed to clear up after a few weeks of being off of it.

Is this issue active still? I have same problem. What I must do? How can I get rid of this hairy tongue?

Many have already tried that without success. Some cases of HT are incorrectly diagnosed too.

i'm suffering from the same problem.

by hairy tongue started after i had appendix surgery and i was hospitalized for 7 days with flagyl antibiotics. since then i have hairy tongue and bb that comes from the tongue.
i tried so many things and nothing helped.

wish i can find something to cure my hairy tongue.

I call my self the yeast guy... And saw all these POSTs wow .. For me , I felt and say yeast was my cause of my crohns. Many jump on me when I talk about. I cant help to when I see stuff like this. Many antibotics accelerate the growth of yeast....Maybe this was your main problem... the antibiotics may have now allowed it to come out more??? Which I feel is half the problem with crohns people to start with( yeasts), the other half , missing good gut bacteria.. AGAIN no nasty gang ups just my thoughts.. I feel the whole focus is just at bacteria. It should be BOTH-- a treatment for BOTH- yeast and bacteria...They both live in your gut-- yet the yeast is ignored. I feel this is ignorant. If your yeast is a mess , the good bacteria are not going to come back as well because the Yeast like a low acid environment and so do things like Cdiff. I can say when I was a mess my stool was a 5 ph today 7.1

the crazy part is yeast live in your GUT too and no one talks about this... they live deep in the lining in the tract. They can become pathogenic and root in , adding to your problems. GI's cant see this it is all so microscopic You can have a problem that is not noticeable externally. Most docs only factor yeast if your tongue tuns WHITE or you get some crazy rash in your skin.... an example any one who has been in that hospital bed sick with crohns.. IBS colitis etc Infectious disease will come in and check you.. You notice they look at your feet, back ,arm pits and ask you to stick out your tongue. If they dont see anything your clean...... for me I dont think thats the case. For me I had a long chat with my infectious disease doc..and she saw the light I say...( two years ago...after my long debate with her) For me, I used many external labs -- which showed my good bacteria low and HIgh yeast-- urine / stool.
nothing my GI doc looked at or hospital. To this day , my Gi doc laughed ,yet today i am good with out his drugs.. I used some drugs -- just not the ones he knew or understood.. difucan and nystatin. Ive worked with my GP doc and he has seen the turn around in me.. in two years of me treating yeast..Theres really no reliable standard testing for yeast checks.... one reason docs dont go there. Eating low carb/paleo --almost zero starches/ sugars helped me. As my bad bacteria had no food source,, milk grains and sugars/starches.. or did my yeast. As well , being watched and treated / advised by different alternative labs I saw the changes happen on paper.

For me , Ive raised my good bacteria 3x , and what I say this could have never happen with out lowering my yeast. All this changed my GUT PH... so all those nasty boggers could not flourish. Each 4 months I feel better and better , sinus wise and gut wise ( ITs been almost 2.5 years now)

I had many minor health problems and they all started to reverse.. I still have osteoporosis ..but that is not changing as my bone metabolites are changing Phospphoric numbers are shooting up

I ll be happy to chat with any one on yeast/bacteria and different lab sources that may help or alter your treatment..

Again NO bashers this is my thoughts and I ve seen changes in me..... that no GI looked for or thought to treat for...

I joined this forum with hopes that can provide some relief to at least a few of you. I have been suffering from hairy tongue for about 6 months, that I believe was caused by over use of hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. I can scrape it in the morning, but by mid afternoon it has a thick nasty orange coating on it, and if I let it go all night, when I scrape it, it's almost a paste. That's how thick it is. And no matter what I did, it would ALWAYS come back. I found that if I didn't drink any coffee or eat anything, it wouldn't be as bad, but it was still there. At first I thought it was a fungus, so the doc prescribed clotrimazole lozenges- of course those didn't work. Got my hands on some diflucan- no change after a month of double dosing. Sal***er gargle seems to slow it down, but it still comes back by the end of the day. I also tried numerous types of probiotics, all to no avail.

Fast forward to now and I think I have found a solution. It's too early to call it a cure, but my tongue has been bright, healthy pink for two whole days so even if it's something I need to do daily to keep my tongue from turning orange, I'll take it. So what's my solution? Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) and alkaline booster drops for my water and coffee. I gargle with a GSE dilution for a bit and brush my tongue and whole mouth with it morning and night, and drink water that has the alkaline drops added, and I also put the alkaline drops in my coffee to reduce acidity (added bonus- takes the acid bite out of my coffee and makes it super smooth and delicious). I've been doing it for two days and the orange crud has yet to return. SWEET RELIEF!!! If you haven't tried this, I HIGHLY suggest you do as I was feeling pretty hopeless up until yesterday.

I'm using the Nutribiotics brand Maximum GSE Liquid Concentrate ($12 for an OZ on Amazon) and Alkazone Alkaline Booster ($15.34 on Amazon). Those are the only two brands I have tried so they are the only ones I can personally vouch for. Both have great reviews on Amazon.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

An ounce of this stuff goes a long way because it's very concentrated and very potent. I use 4-5 drops in a a mouthful of water, which is more than what is recommended (the bottle says 1 drop per ounce of water). I will warn you though, it's very bitter. I spent the night at my GF's last night and forgot to bring the bottle with, so I didn't use it last night or at all today and it's almost midnight and my tongue is still pink. I am thrilled with how well this is working.

Your's sounds more like orange tongue as opposed to hairy tongue though. Does it look like the pics in this forum thread?

It actually doesn't look exactly like any of those pics, but closest to the figure 1 pic in the second link, just dark orange instead of black. I guess I am not 100% sure it's hairy tongue but all my research has led me to that conclusion. My tongue does seem to have elongated papilae, with a fuzzy appearance. And what I read is that the orange color is (or can be) a precursor to black hairy tongue. Regardless, I would recommend trying the GSE because my research into hairy tongue turned that up as a remedy, and so far it has been nothing short of a miracle for me. You guys have tried everything else, right? It's worth a shot.

I must really thank everyone on this forum as I've read all the posts from all 3 threads. I bought the GSE at Vitamin Shoppe retail store here in the US. I was desperate as I've had the hairy tongue for about 4 months from a 10 day dose of Flagyl. I could make an imprint on my tongue with my finger, that's how horrible it was! I brushed my teeth normaly with toothpaste, but not my tongue. I waited about 2 hours, then I used 2 drops in 4 oz of water. Stirred it, then brushed my tongue about 10 strokes in every direction. Spit and repeat. Then I gargled twice with the liquid, about 30 seconds each time, then spit it out.
I tried to do it twice a day, but some days only did it once. After 6 days my tongue is about 90% normal, you can see little ridges were the "hairs" remain, but mostly it's GONE! Im jumping for joy. Hope it works for you too!

Does anyone have any progress that they can share regarding the use of Tazorac 0.1%? Everyone seemed to be getting good results. It's been a while so has anyone completely cleared up their HT in the passed year using tazorac or crushed aspirin or any other method? Thanks
