Humira - didn't inject correctly

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me. I've started using humira injection pens for my Crohn's disease and I have just injected myself but must have hit some scar tissue and it made me jump on the needle entering my thigh and I took my thumb off the button as soon as the needle went in and now I'm worrying that it has gone into the tissue as I literally had my thumb pushed down for 1 secs. The helpline is shut and I don't know whether to take another one or what to do if it has tissued?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Hmmm. Trying to figure out what happened here. When I use my pens, (well, husband injects me) you don't have to hold down the pen button. You press it and that starts the needle going in and it doesn't matter if you take your thumb off, needle stays in as long as you don't pull it out at all.

So I'm guessing you injected into your thigh unless you totally removed the needle and the med was still squirting out.

If it was not all over your skin then it must have went in I would think. Was the injection site all wet? Was the yellow thing showing in the humira pen window?

Thanks so much for the replies. It must have gone in as the yellow part was showing. The nurse told me to keep it pushed down for 10 seconds. I presumed she meant the pen push end must be kept down not just held in place. There was no fluid so hopefully ok. Thanks again.

You just have to hold it against your skin for the 10 seconds. Usually I count and close to 10 seconds I hear a little sound like the liquid has finished being injected. I have messed up before and there was visible liquid on my skin.

Yes, just hold the needle end into your skin for ten seconds. One click of the push down button is all you need there. You can also double check in the window of the pen to see if the plunger is in view. If so, the med went all the way in.

if you find the pens unpleasant (i did) you can ask for syringes.

If it didn't come out all over your skin and you saw the yellow marker in the window then you likely got it all in but I was told by everyone to hold the purple button down the whole time (10 seconds or until the yellow marker is in the middle of the window on the pen).

If it were me, I would call the Humira help line and explain to them what happened so they can guide you, but I doubt they would tell you to use another pen, chances are you got most if not all the med injected. Ask them about holding the button down or not though, I'm sure you're suppose to cuz when you release it I think the needle pops back up into the pen.

My husband takes Humira every two weeks and the shot is very painful each time I give it. The last shot I gave him, he asked if I even gave it to him as there was no pain. You could see where the needle went in and the yellow indicator did move, but I didn't hear the sound that you usually hear at the end when the medication is done going in and there also was not wet ring around the pen as there normally is when finished. Not sure if I should give him another shot. Anyone else ever experience this?

Hi Melanie & welcome to the forum. If you read the posts above it does sound like the medication went in. If the indicator moved & you can see the injection site he should be ok. I could see the medication in the pen too.

Also, check his box, Humira now has Humira CF, citrate free & it does not sting. When I was on Humira I set the pen out for 30 minutes & I would roll it around in my hands right before injecting. This was approved by my dr. I also found that pinching up the skin helped. I did it in my thighs, I never got the courage up to inject it in my stomach.
