My wonderful doc is relocating..... recommendations for Gastro doc in northern suburbs of Chicago

You can try Bennett Plotnick. I think he's in Skokie. My brother went to med school with him and he sees a fair amount of IBD patients.

If you are willing to drive, I saw Dr. Rubin at U of Chicago Hospital. He is considered one of the best experts in the US for Crohn's and does a lot of work with ccfa. I did not have a great experience being hospitalized at U of C, but I think Dr. Rubin was very knowledgeable. For ongoing everyday stuff, I think Dr. Plotnick would be good.

Thanks gumby44! Actually those are too far for me to drive - hoping more in north eastern suburbs. Lake Forest, Libertyville, Gurnee, Highland Park, etc.

Hey, I would say make the effort and go see the best at Rubin.  I actually have him too and although he comes off a little stern and business like, he is very, very good. 

Its your health and its not like you would have to make the drive all the time.  Also, he has a nurse, Debbie James, who is freaking great and will go out of her way to answer questions and get you in  to see somoene, if there is an emergency. 

I have had Crohn's for 32 years and seeing the best doctors you can find, will pay off.  Not to take away anything from the Plotkin DR, but at U of C, they are the leaders in the field in Chicago.

I have to agree with Adam. I live in Northern Michigan (originally from Chicago). I travelled to see Dr. Rubin for a second opinion. If I lived in the Chicago area, I would definitely travel to see him. But you have to decide that for yourself. Good luck finding someone.
