To the best of my knowledge, eczema is also an autoimmune (causing inflammation to the skin, just like with IBD inflammation is caused internally to the intestinal tract). I had very severe eczema when I was a kid, for a few years it was horrible and out of control (my mother was useless, wouldn't take me to a doctor for 2 yrs while I suffered with huge patches of it on my body)....it was very painful.
There are varying degrees of eczema (and even different types of it) just like with IBD. For me, the way I look at my over-all health is that I had the severe eczema when I was a young kid, then basically "grew" out of it but as a young adult traded it off for IBD, instead of being attacked on the outside, now I'm being attacked on the inside.
