Anyone else just can't handle antibiotics orally?

So last Thursday I had 4 teeth pulled. Two were my top wisdom teeth, and on both sides the molar next to them (thanks steroids for ruining them!).

As a preventative they put me on antibiotics. I asked for the kind I took a few months ago for a skin infection I had, and they did okay with me. This time, not so much. It's not really the diarrhea part that I can't deal with. Its the constant pain and nausea that I can't handle. Makes me crawl up in a fetal position in pain and wanting to throw up. Taking them with food made no difference either.

I called the dentist this morning to let him know that after 4 days of it, I'm sick as a dog. He told me to stop taking them. Thinking I need antibiotics in shot form? At least by pass the upper stomach issue? Anyone else have so much problems with antibiotics?

I think it depends on what kind of antibiotics you take. I needed a shot of Rocephin after a cat bite and it caused just as much D as oral antibiotics. The only antibiotics I seem to handle are Cipro,the Z-pacs and Flagyl, and Flagyl makes me nauseous.

I can handle z-pacs too, I think because they are short enough before the problems start. I used to handle Cipro and Flagyl just fine, now they make me sick. I don't get it. I can always deal and work with the diarrhea they cause, but not the abdominal pain and nausea, that gets to be too much.

It's really hit or miss for me too. I fine with Amoxycillin but can't handle Augmentin at all (which is just Amoxycillin + something else). When I was given Augmentin last year for oral surgery, I lasted about three days before I had to stop because of the nausea, D, & abdominal pain. I had a really tough time with Cephalexin earlier this year (fatigue, muscle weakness, lightheadedness) and am hoping not to have similar issues with the one I'm currently one (Cefuroxime), which is in the same family. Flagyl doesn't really give me issues.

At this point, I feel like anytime I'm given antibiotics, it's a crap shoot as to whether I'll have side effects.

That's what I was just on vitaka, Cephanexin. Funny thing, I actually requested it because that's what I had taken earlier in the year with no problems. Just odd. I guess it really is a crap shoot!

Could you take it with an antinausea med like Zofran? That's what I did when I was on Flagyl and cipro for a month recently to heal an intestinal abcess. (It worked wonders, by the way) Flagyl left a horrible, chronic metallic taste in my mouth. Zofran helped me manage it.
