drainage continues after abscess/fistulas surgory

My husband had abscess sugory in jan followed by fistual surgory in feb. He took rest for a week then and then he resumed his regular routine. It took 6 weeks time for fistula to heal but drainage never stopped completely. He resumed joggine/walking from past 2 weeks and there is again little more drainage and discomfort. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or something to worry about? Thanks

Hi there. I had surgery to drain an abceyss a couple of months ago. They left a seton in place which was a nice surprise when I woke up. It doesn't really hurt anymore but still drains almost everyday. I asked when the seton would come out and was not happy with the answer. Looks like I've got an extra hole in my butt for a long long time. Haha. Guess I can only laugh at myself right?

Yes, fistula healing time can take a while - I had few surgeries and some would heal within 4 weeks, some took up to 6 months. All depends on type of fistula, location, incision dept, rectal health – inflammation present or not, meds you are on to help with healing, etc.

Mtgman, i also have a fistula, do u take pain meds? Does ur drainage get worse after a bowel movement???
