Hi! I hope your daughter starts to feel better soon. There can be several reasons why your daughter's iron is low. There is also her hemoglobin level which determines if she's anemic. Women should generally have a 12-14 gram hemoglobin. Anyway, she could be actively bleeding, have anemia of chronic disease, or be iron deficient. Testing her ferritin level and iron levels will help determine if it's iron deficiency. I used to have low iron and hemoglobin levels (my hemoglobin was around 8 for years) and then the doctor had me do iron infusions. I did it weekly for about 12 weeks. I believe it was called ferric gluconate. I have been pleasantly surprised at how my iron levels have stayed up over the years. I did the infusions about 5 years ago and my hemoglobin was 11.3 at my last check. I have not been in remission the whole time but I don't think I've had any active bleeding either. I don't know if I've really answered any of your questions but I know how frustrating the uncertainty can be. I work in a hospital laboratory so if you have any questions about the lab results, I will be happy to try to answer them for you. Best of luck to both of you.
