Just curious if anyone else out there is having success with the anti-map treatment. I switched from taking pred Imuran and humira to anti-map therapy plus ultraviolet blood irradiation and so far its been great.

Im a Medical Laboratory Technologist and the pathologist over my laboratory is Dr. J.T. Kuenstner who is a firm believer in the map theory. His son was was diagnosed with crohns at the age of nine. His son went threw the anti map treatment plus ultraviolet blood irradiation therapy soon after his diagnosis. He is now 20 and is still in remission.I flared up after being on 150mg of Imuran for 2 and a half years, and was placed on 40 mg prednisone 200mg Imuran and I started Humira. The drugs put me in to remission but I just wanted to get off all of that and try the anti map treatment. I tapered off the pred and just stopped the Imuran and the humira and started the anibiotics and the uvbi therapy at the same time. Its been about 4 months and so far I feel great and im not having any side effects from the anitbiotics. Im on 300mg rifampin twice daily, 500mg clarithromycin twice daily and clofazimine 100 mg one a day and uvbi every other week. I also take probiotics. I have disease involvement in my duodenum, jejunum, ileum, ileoceal valve and my cecum. I mainly have strictures

What the hell is the UV irradiation therapy? New one to me.

I could've done anti-MAP treatment, but I decided I didn't want to be on a strong cocktail of antibiotics for 2 years, with yet more horrible side-effects and no guarantee of remission. I was not in remission on the meds, in fact I was still very ill. (A steroid-induced remission which lasted for about 2 seconds doesn't count.) Decided in the end to go for surgery. Will never know if I did the right thing or not, but I do know I was at the end of my tether when I booked surgery.

I'm glad you're doing well, but since you seemed to be in remission anyway, it's hard to know whether the anti-MAP antibiotics had anything to do with it. Also, if your strictures are caused by scar tissue, no drug can treat that. Inflammatory strictures can be treated medically, tho'.

Ultraviolet blood irradiation was used to treat a variety of disorders before antibiotics were invented. They take about 250cc of blood out of your body and run it through ultraviolet light and then return it back to you. Its somehow supposed to stimulate the immune system. My pathologist thinks by adding in the UVBI with antibiotics that it may increase the odds of getting rid of the MAP. Who knows if its going to work, only time will tell as always. I'd rather take these antibiotics anyday over pred Imuran and humira.

How do you find a GI that is willing to consider anti-map therapy. So many aren't interested in it.

I was wondering the same thing. I'm in NY does anyone know of any doctors that are willing to treat with the anti-map therapy? My daughters GI called the anti-Map controversial and fruitless. I don't believe she will help me find anyone.

A good place to start would be here as they list a few doctors that currently treat for this based on location. Perhaps a better idea would also be to request that your GI call them and discuss their success/failures/side effects and such first hand.

Hi all , anyone getting or got the benefits from anti map. Does skin colorations really severe?
