Humira induced Psoriasis?

I know Humira is used to TREAT psoriasis, but I've heard that it can also induce other conditions it's also meant to treat (arthritis, lupus, etc) - has anyone had personal experience with this? I've been taking Hurima for a few years now and (knock on wood) have had success with keeping my Crohn's under control. But now I'm getting these red flaky patches on my skin and scalp - some of them are not itchy but the ones on my scalp are. I've had Crohn's related rashes before and need to make an appointment with a dermatologist but it looks like psoriasis.

Has this happened to anyone else taking Humira? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thank you for letting me know pb4, I didn't know it could get worse quickly! I need a new dermatologist - unfortunately the one I have I realized is more cosmetic. When I had my first Crohn's flare and no dr knew what was wrong with me I had tons of symptoms but one was at least a dozen of these awful, painful aphthous ulcers in my mouth and throat (probably all the way down my esophagus too) - my dermatologist had NO idea what they were, had 3 interns come in to see and they all took turns looking in my mouth with a grossed out look on their faces, it was a terrible experience. He gave me an RX for valtrex (?!?) and asked me if I was interested in Botox. Thankfully my old primary care dr who I went back to as a last resort took one look and knew exactly what was going on in my body. I'll find a new derm this week and go asap, thank you!!

My husband has patches of eczema and we have no idea whether remicade caused it or not. My husband has continued to take the remicade because it is keeping Crohn's in remission.

He uses desoximetasone when it is really bad (no more than 2 weeks), and uses s cream called protopic (tacrolimus) on a daily basis on his other spots. He has been doing this for I think about 2 years now, and managing to keep the eczema manageable. I hope you can too

I believe that my Psoriatic Arthritis was induced by Humira, which I take for Crohns. However, tomorrow I am seeing my Rheumatologist and going to ask for the simple test to check for antibodies to Humira, apparently it can easily tell if it is doing damage or not.

I started the Humira because I had been on remicade and it lost effectiveness. I took the Humira for my Crohns and it only helped the psoriatic arthritis a little. Enbrel did not do anything for my arthritis, but I stuck it out for so long because it was helping the psoriasis go away. Stelara hasn't made a huge impact on my arthritis either. We just recently paired it with Imuran for the Crohns and I'm hoping it will do double duty and help put the arthritis into remission. Unfortunately, I seem to be a mess in the arthritis department. Nothing seems to be able to get my arthritis into remission. A few years ago I was on Cimzia and that did great for my arthritis and the Crohns went into remission with Cimzia and 6MP. Have you tried Cimzia?

Thank you everyone! I understand that Humira can cause other issues, especially (and ironically) the other ones they treat (psoriasis, lupus, arthritis, etc). I had to sign forms stating I understand that Humira can also cause cancer so I'm aware of the side effects, but I'd like to know if anyone who has taken Humira for their Crohn's and developed Humira if there's a blood test you can take to find out. For example, when I was on Remicaide for years I started to get very sick and had to insist after all the tests came back normal that my GI do a colonoscopy (never thought I would beg for that) - after looking inside he believed how sick I was. When I asked him why all the tests came back normal he said he had just gotten the results of the last one, which showed I had developed antibodies to the Remicaide and it was no longer working in my system.

Are there any similar blood tests that can be done with Humira? Or to see if that's what's causing this psoriasis? I can't have all the awfulness of Crohn's AND be itching all the time, that's too much for one person to bear.

Ugh, twingirl, noooo! I'm sorry to hear that. The same thing happened to me with Remicaide. Since Humira is the 4th drug I've been on I get nervous that it will stop working or cause other complications in my life (the arthritis, psoriasis, etc). I'll call my GI and ask him about that test, he's kind of clueless a lot of the time.

I've been using the RX oil they prescribed for my scalp and two different ointments I have to alternate, I guess since they are steroid creams they can damage your skin so alternating helps. I'm going to try my own coconut oil scalp mask and see if that helps!

Thanks for anyone who chimed in about Humira. I guess as long as the side effect isn't cancer I can't complain too much.
