Picking a medication

So I just got results back from a capsule endoscopy that I had a few weeks ago and found out that I have ulcers pretty high up in my small intestine going into my large intestine. I have been given a couple of options by my doctor and really have no clue what to do. I'm hoping some of you may have some insight.

Just some background. I was diagnosed with Crohn's a few years from a colonscopy but was told by my doctor that it was very mild. At that time I had a good amount of pain as well as nausea and I lost some weight. She started me with pentasa which did not help and I tried some other mesalamine medications which also did not help. Eventually she started me on entocort which finally put me into what I think was a remission. After i finished the entocort I felt pretty good and stopped taking medication. I know that's bad, I was in college and became preoccupied with classes and overall felt pretty good. Being that she said it was so mild I wasn't taking it too seriously either. Now fast forward a year and I'm starting to have pain again and decided to go to another doctor. He did the capsule endoscopy and found the ulcers in my small intestine. Luckily my symptoms aren't too bad, mostly crampy pain, nausea and fatigue. But from what the test shows it seems like it's pretty active. He said that the ulcers were bleeding slightly.

So now he gave me three options. Cimzia, remicade, or 6mp. I am going back in a few weeks and we will decide, until then he's starting me back on entocort. i think I am ruling out remicade for now, I would rather try something a little less aggressive first and move to that if it nothing else works. So I think I'm between cimzia and 6mp. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.

If going with a biologic, Remicade has a longer proven track record, so it would be the best choice before Cimzia.

6MP or Imuran would likely be a good choice considering your symptoms. Either of these have be taken at the optimum therapeutic level, so you would also need a metabolite test to determine that.

I would go with Remicade if I were you, just because it takes so long for 6-MP to start working. Even on Entocort, things can get bad pretty quickly in the several months it would take for 6-MP to start working. You said your symptoms aren't that bad now, so if I were you I'd take medication that would nip it in the bud before the symptoms do get bad. What in particular scares you about Remicade? Being in the hospital for an infusion? IV's? Needles in general? You can get infusions in a doctor's office or possibly even in your home.
