Hi Nikki
I see from your signature that you are already on a "strict diet", but still wondering what to eat. I am not sure if this is the best path, but the following is what I did.
I decided that food had to make a difference in my Crohn's. I also decided that as I knew nothing about food and Crohn's so there had to researchers, doctors, other Crohnies that knew more than I, so I did not have to figure this out by myself. I read as many books and research papers (med pub) on this topic as I could find. I read about Low FodMap, Makers, The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), Low Carb, Low Res, Paleo, Nourishing Traditions, The Probiotics Revolution and I am sure others. As each of the books will tell you that all you have to do is follow their diet and the diets all contradict each other, I realized there is no single answer, so I still had to figure it out myself to some degree. As Diet change is as tough as stopping smoking I needed much more information than could be gathered on a website, but rather needed books and valid medical research. I read the book and then looked for supporting research. I finally choose a diet, not because I was convinced it was the only answer, but because it made the most sense to me at the time. Perhaps if I was looking at a different time I would have chosen a different diet. Who knows. I saw little improvement for the first 8 months, but after that got to healing.
So my advice, is read what the folks who are actually doing the research and writing the books are saying, and do so until a diet "speaks" to you. Then commit to it and give it a real try, but understand that even as you are following the diet that you will have to make changes for your body. For example, even though I am 100% compliant to the diet I have to minimize nut butter, go low carb, high protein and fat.....
Healing thoughts
