Samantha - I'm glad your surgery went well!
Yes, the first couple of days after surgery, I was tired. You just had major surgery. You probably ate liquids for 2 days prior. Only eating liquids for a couple of days after. I did a lot of resting that first week. I recovered fairly quickly after that, though. Especially once I got home. I walked every 3 hours in the hospital (except middle of the night) and continued taking walks at home.
Yes, I had nausea day 3 through 6. At the introduction of solid foods. I think the day that I was released from the hospital (day 5), I only ate two meals. I still had some Ensure at home, so supplemented the missed meals/calories with Ensure. The morning of day 6, I tried to get up and make my own breakfast, put the dishes in the dishwasher, then the nausea hit me & I threw up. I took it easy at home day 6 & 7 (my first two days at home). Let me spouse make me lunch/dinner. Then, started doing more for myself on day 8.
The hospital nutrionalist also directed me to eat a lot of protein at home...she gave me a target # of grams for my age/weight, and it was a really hard number to hit. If I didn't have that target, I definitely would not have eaten the amount of protein that they recommended. I think the protein helped aid my recovery and keep my energy levels up. I ate a lot of peanut butter, eggs, frozen grilled fish patties, and tuna. Ensure has protein, too, which I continued to take for a week or two after returning home.
Good luck, and I hope your recovery continues to go well!
