Crohn's in the lungs or lung problems caused by meds for crohn's.

Hi Everyone,
I am an old member who has not posted in over a year. This is one of the places I know
to come to when I am dealing with something new.
I had surgery 7 years ago and had my whole colon removed. For six years I was symptom
free and med free. I had problems with my stoma in 2013 and had to have a new one created.
The surgery went well but I got c-diff in the hospital and that activated my crown's disease.
It took 4 months to find the right drug combo to get it under control. I was taking 8mgs of
methotrexate once a week,9mgs of budesonide and 90mgs of Stelara every 40 days.
I started having a cough in August which I thought was allergy related but by October I had
bronchitis and have had it ever since. I have had two rounds of antibiotics and have now developed
obstructed breathing. My G.P. suggested that I not take the drugs because they could be making
me worse or causing the problem. My G.P. also suggested that Crohn's could be effecting my lungs.
I have had a CT scan and pulmonary test and it has been narrowed down to either infection caused
by the drugs or Crohn's. I have 3 more pulmonary test in the next two weeks which should tell me
what is causing this.
Has anyone else here had anything like this or know anything about this?

Hi Julia,
Yes Crohn's can effect the lungs. I will have pulmonary test this week which should tell
me for sure. I will keep everyone posted because we all need to know what might effect
us. Plus we need to know what treatment options are available.

Thank you for the article. I had crohn's in my mouth, throat and esophagus before I
had my surgery. there was a study done in Australia about a connection between sinus
problems and crohn's. I will try to find that study and post it.

No not pleurisy. I just ran across an article in this months arthritis magazine that said
20 percent of people with RA will develop lung problems and methotrexate users or people
using biologic drugs can develop infections that are difficult to treat as a side effect of the
drugs.
My symptoms are very much like bronchitis, plus obstruction so I need steroids to breath.
I cough up so much mucus that I feel like I am having a flare except it is mucus coming
from the lungs. It is very weird. I have never had asthma or anything like that. Last year
I ran 3 half marathons and now I have trouble going up a flight of stairs.
