I developed lately an intermittent sweet taste in mouth, it comes and goes. I've had it before a lot of times. I'm dreaded that I might have got diabetes. I read that GERD could cause a sweet taste. I have a long standing GERD, 16 years now. Still, I'm afraid to bring this issue to my GI's attention when I see him next week. I noticed it appeared after I finished the 3 day course of dexamethasone injections. But as I mentioned, I felt this taste a lot before.

I have severe GERD and haven't had that before. I'd ask on the other forums about it. Sorry I can't be more helpful. BUT I really do think you need to bring it up with your doctor.

I've heard about dexamethasone and many other drugs giving a metallic taste, but I bet everybody describes it differently. Even if it were ketones, that doesn't automatically mean diabetes. It could just mean not eating enough. Hate to ask, but does your urine smell this way too? Either way, bring it up with a doctor soon.

Scifigal and Cyborg Ninja, thank you. I noticed that I don't get this taste in the morning. It only happens after I take my meds. Could it be related to any of them? Also, I got another sensation; the tip of my tongue is as it's burnt. That would def suggest GERD, right?

I actually think it suggests a side effect of the medication. A burnt sensation as in it feels like the aftereffects of one (sort of numb, taste less), or currently burning, stinging sensation?

Cyborg Ninja, it's like when you sip something very hot and your tongue gets burnt. This resolved today and again I have the sweet taste. I think I get it after I take the B complex vitamin.
