Humira induced psoriasis? I can't take it anymore :(

I posted something about this a while back but it's gotten so much worse, so please bear with me.

I used to be on Remicaide until I developed antibodies to it and now I take Humira, for about 4+ years. I developed drug-induced psoriasis from the Humira around September I think? So about 5 months ago. I had red spots all over my back, on my legs & scalp (a few on my forearms). I went to the dermatologist and they did a skin biopsy and (a few weeks later) said the test results came back that the skin biopsy was conducive with psoriasis.

I developed this kind of out of the blue, and I don't know what brought it on (I've heard "it's stress" so many time for my Crohn's that it's frustrating when that's a dr's go-to answer rather than just "I don't know".) The dermatologists suggest I talk to my GI about going off Humira (not an option since I've been on 6mp (didn't work) and Remicaide (eventually stopped working) and I don't know what they would put me on after Humira.

None of the 2 steroid creams/ointments or scalp oil they gave me helped. Does ANYONE have ANY similar experiences? Like can I hope/expect this to run it's course and eventually go away or will I probably have it the whole time I'm on Humira? I have red itchy spots all over, especially my lower legs, back and forearms. I don't want to risk a flare but I can't take the itching anymore.

Any suggestions? Thanks for listening. sad

I got psoriasis from Humira, about 18 months after starting it. It did not go away on its own. My Crohn's went into remission so I was able to take Enbrel for it. That cleared it and when my Crohn's returned with a vengeance I was switched to Stelara. Stelara is not FDA approved for Crohn's, but is used "off-label" with success. Your GI would probably have a hard time getting it approved, but your dermatologist could get it approved easily. The psoriasis won't go away until you take something for it. Sorry. I lived with it for 5 years, I know how bad it sucks.

Uggggh, I was hoping it was something that would go away as suddenly as it came on :( Thank you for writing, I appreciate it. I try not to be vain but on top of the Crohn's, side effects from that, side effects from the Humira, and now the itchiness from the psoriasis, it's so UNSIGHTLY. Again, Crohn's keeps me humble for sure but seriously, with everything else, now I have big red flaky patches all over? I know it could be worse but still. :(

I hear ya! I used to tell myself the same thing. "It's ugly, but at least it's not going to kill me." Five summers of wearing jeans in the southern U.S. Not fun. In between Humira and Enbrel I took other biologics (Cimzia and simponi) , but they didn't help. Simponi actually made it flare! I hope you can find something that works for you and can clear it up.

I had similar issues on Humira. I used visteril to help but eventually switched to Cimzia. Cimzia didn't cause a rash for me.

I hate this dd!

I developed palmoplanter pustular psoriasis on my hands and feet. My dermatologist believes it is from the Remicade and is finally treating it with some luck with Topicort and a Vitamin D ointment. One of the side effects that is now listed (as of January, 2015) for both Remi and Humira is psoriasis.

Hi, I'm sorry you are going through this. I personally haven't experienced this but my husband after taking only the loading doses of Humira developed drug induced psoriasis and arthritis. He was on various ointments and creams for almost a year and nothing helped. I should warn about about the steroid creams (once you stop them the psoriasis will come back 100% worse). Psoriasis covered his entire body and scalp and the arthritis affected his feet and hands (it was a disaster). Finally, after a year of being miserable his doctor put him on Methotrexate injections 15mg (weekly) with 10mg of Folic Acid (daily). It seems to be working, it took about 3 months to see results but the psoriasis and arthritis are under control now. Hope this info was helpful to you somehow and I hope you feel better soon. I know how frustrating this is :(
