I see this is an old topic, but a very useful one!
My hubby has this cracked crack problem since diagnosed when 19... he is now 48yrs old. LOooog time with the burning, itching, seeping, bleeding pain. A recent MRI showed it is not a fistula burning through the skin from the bowel, (Thank Goodness!) but the situation is still a huge pain in the butt for him. No pun intended.
Here's what I'm hoping will work, and if you have any suggestions, please let us know. This is debilitating for him, it is that bad. He is on Humera shots once every 2 weeks. I'm scared he will develop an infection that his body won't be able to fight off.
Okay, so he has a "crack" that is like a long oval. Runs along where the butt cheeks come together. So, around the anus, right up to and slightly onto his scrotum and then back to the anus. Literally a "ring of fire" for him.
He sweats really bad, from the meds and I think it is also just his body's natural thing. At night, he sweats, gets itchy, scratches in his sleep and tears himself
open. I usually can feel the mattress shaking when he scratches, it is that bad! Short of me slapping him, he can't stop itching.
After a lot of googling, I found out about
"Swamp @ss" and yes, the @ is the letter A. It was very enlightening.
Here's the attack plan:
First, clear up the crack. After every bm, (all diarrea, approx. 10-17 times a day) wash with anti-bacterial soap and warm water. The Soap Works Tea Tree Oil Soap and gentle wash cloth. Use hairdryer on cool setting to dry the area.
Apply an iodine healing tincture to
open sores with q-tips. Rougier Tincture of Iodine 5%
Apply liquid waterproof/sweat proof bandage that breaths over sores while not getting it on the anus. New-Skin® Liquid Spray Bandage.
Hopefully, this will hold for a few bathroom visits so he only has to repeat this process 3-4 times a day. Using a new bidet attachment and flushable wipes and hairdryer on cool to dry the area in between the treatment process. Luxe Bidet Neo 120 - Self Cleaning Nozzle - Fresh Water Non-Electric Mechanical Bidet Toilet Attachment and Cottonelle Fresh Care Flushable Cleansing Cloths.
Soaking in tub with Epson salts. Showering, using the Tea tree oil soak and washcloth.
Allowing "breathing breaks" where his butt is free and breezy (at home!) for short time periods throughout the day.
Second Step of attack plan:
Gotta stop the sweat from building up and irritating the healed skin...
Use a clinical strength antiperspirant all over the butt crack. I don't like the idea of chemicals, so we will try a charcoal based natural deodorant. Charcoal supposedly absorbs 100% moisture. Will apply fresh after every bathroom visit and before going to bed. Going to try PiperWai Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant.
If he feels like he needs more "dryness," we will try an easy-to-apply gel formula like Manscaped Crop Preserver that dries down to a powdery finish after the deodorant.
If itchy, going to try a light anti-itch lotion like Aveeno Skin Relief 24-Hour Moisturizing Lotion before applying/re-applying charcoal deodorant.
Has anyone tried a treatment similar to this, and did it work? Do you think it sounds like it might work? My hubby is very touchy about
the subject of his behind so I'm hoping he will go along with this plan. Here's hoping!
