Fatty Liver and Crohns

Recently I had a Catscan done to look for active crohns in my small intestine. The GI DR called me with the results confirming its active. But he also mentioned some fatty deposits on my liver that showed up in the scan. From the research I've done online, it appears to be very normal for people with crohn's to have this separate issue. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm just looking for input so I don't freak out!

I had the same results from my MRI and my GI said most Crohns patients do have a fatty liver but no one has figured out why.....

He wasn't concerned.

I have been told the same thing. I do think it is very common in people with crohns.

I have the same thing. Didn't realize there was a connection with Crohn's though. Interesting!

It can be due to steroids which are known to cause fatty liver. Fatty liver can progress to cirrhosis in a small percentage of people. The treatment is low carbohydrate diet which coincidentally may alleviate some of your Crohn's symptoms!

Hi! Yes me too. My GI and GP both were not concerned. I freaked out though when after my ileocecal resection and fundoplication the surgeon told me that my liver was 3 times the size of most people which caused the surgery to take and additional hour trying to maneuver around my liver! Crazy right! Anyway, I even went to Cleveland Clinic for second opinion...he too was not concerned either. No one ever said the fatty liver had anything to do with Crohns. Interesting!
