Has anyone ever been able to get disability because of Crohns....if so, how do you go about trying to get it

I did; I have severe Crohn's along with some other conditions and have been hospitalized 30 times in the last 3 years. If you go to the SSA website, the application is online. They have a list of things you should collect before you start applying.

Yes, I'm on disability for CD. I couldn't get through the paperwork on my own. I was intimidated after reading that almost everyone gets denied at first. I used an attorney and the process was so much easier than I expected. The attorney charged nothing up front. I spent about an hour in his office answering questions as he filled out disability forms for me. He contacted my doctors and got everything together. I did have to pay him a percentage of my settlement but for me it was worth it to have someone to fight for me. I also think it's very important to have doctors who support you and lots of medical records. Good luck!

What do you mean by settlement? Isn't disability just a monthly check? I'm curious because I'm thinking of applying and wondering what the best way to go about doing it is.

Settlement is if they owe you any back-pay from the date you were officially disabled. Last year when I was accepted for disability, they determined based on dates of employment, hospitalization, etc. that I qualified for disability about 10 months before, so my first check was 10 months' worth of disability. You pay a percentage of this lump sum to your lawyer.

Crohns is on the list if you meet certain criteria. Getting disability for crohns is not easy but if you have proof of severity of disease and a doctor that agrees you are disabled, you can fight for it. Be prepared for a long fight tho.
I was approved a after a year but I also have avascular necrosis in both femurs and have had multiple surgeries on them and will need in the future.
