will get Cipro after bilateral mastectomy

Hi everyone. I am getting a bilateral skin saving mastectomy Wed with immediate reconstruction. My plastic surgeon wants me on Cipro for 4 days after surgery. He gave me a choice of three antibiotics and cipro was actually the lesser of the evils for me . I did get horrible c-diff from cipro on day five the last time I had cipro so I am more nervous about the c-diff than I am of the double mastectomy.
I plan on taking four Florastor a day to hopefully prevent c-diff but can't remember the dosing schedule. Is recommended to take the Florastor two hours before the antibiotic ? Any other hints to avoid C-diff?
I did ask the plastic surgeon if I could take a penicillin instead but he wants protection from Staph.

Sci-fi, I have been so busy and trying hard not to think about it but my gut is smarter than that. No distracting it from stress. I always flare when I get stressed out.

Instant coffee, thank you for that bit of info. I am panicked bc I just ate a few cherries. I will avoid sugars from this point forward.

I had my surgery yesterday, horrible pain but improving today. I am home. Was at the hospital for a total of 7 hours. After surgery they woke me and I was in such pain they gave me fentanyl since I am allergic to almost everything else but after 30 mg I stopped breathing so they quickly intubated me again. That has never happened before but they have me tons during surgery so maybe o had too much in my system...who knows. Glad I am doing a little better today. Keep those prayers coming please!

The surgery seemed to have went fine. My pain is manageable today but I have a low grade fever of 100.5 so that has me a bit concerned. The Dr office said it is normal but if it goes above 101 and keeps coming back after Tylenol then to call back.
I am having issues with my avascular necrosis in my knee which is a little swollen so I am hoping this isn't complicating things. Please keep praying for me!

Twingirl, thank you so much! I am doing very well considering everything I have been thru! I had my double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction wed and I was only in the hospital for 7 hours total and that included waiting for almost an hour in the waiting room. I am hoping the Dr will remove my drains tomorrow. One is sitting on a nerve on my rib so the slightest movement causes severe pain. That was actually the worst thing about the whole experience with the exception of stopping breathing after a dose fentanyl after surgery but I don't remember that so it really doesnt count, lol. My fever went away and I mostly just take Tylenol once or twice a day and maybe one oxycodone over the course of a day since I break it in half.

Thanks Scifi. All is going very well! Today is day six post surgery. My pathology report on the breast tissue showed a lot of junk but no cancer. My drains were removed yesterday. No sign of infection yet. I made it thru the round of cipro with Florastor so that makes me so happy. My new breasts look great. They are a lot better than what I had, lol.
Hopefully I can get this pesky expander tube removed soon. Dr wants to wait till all my breast swelling is gone so in case he needs to add or subtract saline,he can do it then have a small surgery to remove the tube and add a stitch. My Dr was very surprised how well i am doing. I think he expected more issues due to my crohns but instead, I am healing better than most of his past patients. Imagine that, haha!

Oh :( pmedic, I'm so sorry, I don't recall you having to go through that, that's very heartbreaking and I feel awful that you obviously mentioned it here and I don't recall responding to you on that, very sorry.
