Entyvio or Humira for perianal Crohns??

Which one is more effective? I have Crohns in the ileum, entire colon, and rectum. Oddly (but thankfully) I only have symptoms in the rectum. Don't get me wrong, it is debilitating pain!! But, I don't have the diarrhea or cramping like many Crohns sufferers.
I read Entyvio actually has a side effect of perianal abscess! No thanks! I haven't done much research on Humira. Anyone have any opinions about this? I start prednisone today so I'm hoping for some relief. Btw, I am allergic to Remicade

Remicade is actually the best drug for closing fistulas and helping perianal Crohn's. However, since you can't take that, definitely go with Humira. It has the same mechanism of action as Remicade, and both Humira and Remicade have had studies done showing they help close fistulas and deal with perianal Crohn's.

Entyvio does have "anal abscess" on the warning label along with many other things, but all that means is that someone on the clinical trial had an anal abscess; it doesn't necessarily mean causation. (The patients in the trial did have Crohn's, after all.) That being said, I would still go with Humira. It works faster, it has a longer track record, and studies show it helps.

Unfortunately Remicade is the best one for that. I have a friend who is on Entyvio, and it didn't do a thing for her fistula. Although it did put her in remission otherwise.

I would give the Humira a try since that really seems like your best option.

Humira cleared the inflammation in my recto-vaginal fistula within a few months after starting it, not sure why Remicade is still being credited for fistula issues but I think it might have more to do with which med you respond to better, I've not been on any other biologic, and I now take weekly shots of Humira, but it cleared the inflammation of my fistula as it did in my colon and rectum even before I started doing the shots weekly.

Finished my fourth Entivio infusion. Have seen improvements: have a bowel obstruction where I was feeling obstructed every day, now it has been a month without it. Also have a bad case of Perianal Crohns, now the constant itching has been reduced 50% and less pain. There is a definite positive change in the anal area that I have not had in the last 3 years. I did not ever had a temporary improvement in these 3 years so I don't think it was healing by itself.

At this point I will give Entivio a B grade, when I was in Humira for the first two years it was dramatically good, took me into remission. I gave Humira an A+ grade. With Entivio I am somewhat cautious and will have to have at least 3 more infusions before I can conclusively say that is working well. Will keep you posted.

I'm still bleeding from fisturla surgery for a year ago! I still have a tear! It seems steriods help it and cipro. But this last time with cipro I had bad tingling in my feet! I stopped it on day three.

I've had 5 infusion of Entyvio, i'm def better in the "urgency" department and I haven't pooped my pants in a long time!

It's hasn't been a "cure all or remission" for me. My next scope next year will tell. I failed remicade and Humira made me soooooo sick. I couldn't get out of bed for a week. It was the worst flu like symptoms and took my breath away. Remicade, just showed no improvement whatsoever. Entyvio has been the most promising. I still have a a fissure for sure.

I've been dx by Mayo with perianal fistualizing chrons disease.

I have PA Crohns w fistula for many years.
My GI says it is the most stubborn Crohn's to treat and thus drug cos. don't try to dvelop drugs specifically to treat it as they usually fail.
But some existing drugs can heal and combo therapy can be very effective.
Humira is probably your best bet and you will know in 2-3 mos if it works for you.
I would suggest also takng 6mp or similar and some steroids until the Humira kicks in then see if you can taper off.
If you have PA inflammation but no fistula (yet)
Entyvio may work to heal inflammation it did for me but couldn't close the fistula on its own. If Humira doesn't work then try entyvio.
But always good to use other therapies in combo esp diet and probiotics

I had a seton placed nov. 2014. I was put on Remicade. In Dec. 2014, I was taken to emergency room with stroke like symtoms. Remicade stopped after 2nd infusion taken in Jan.2015. 5 months to recuperate from the symtoms with therapy. Then, I came down with pneumonia in Feb 2015.....bad... At this time, June 2015 went back to work and started Entyvio August 2015. Well thats what is going on with me, but my concern is the seton. I hear people have them forever, but i am in constant pain. There is no way people can live and work like this unless they are on disability and stayed high on pain killers all the time. I'm not there yet. 10 months with a seton, 5 when i was off work when i could attend to it. My question is will it ever come out? I have great insurance there has got to be a better way. Is this the best solution our medical doctors have come up with, a hard string hanging out of you with a n incision near your anus...FOREVER....WHAT.........very depressed.
