The price of medications

Hi,
Does anyone know how much I can expect to pay out of pocket for a Remicaid infusion if I have Medicare? I have applied for assistance with the manufacturer, but was denied, I have been using Humira, but the relief I get is limited, as it's more than 5 years now I have been taking the injections. It amazes me how the drug companies expect people who are sick to be able to afford the co-pays. I am disabled and have a very limited income, It's the golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules. Any ideas ?

Their website says Remistart is not valid with Medicare or Medicaid. Do you have a medicare supplemental insurance plan? I'd imagine with just medicare it would be pretty pricey.

Remicade has been by far the worst for getting help with costs for me. With Humira and Cimzia it was either free or $5 and there was no huge hassle of sending them EOB's.

With my insurance my out of pocket costs are $650 per infusion. It's been a fight to get Remistart to pay what they are supposed to. First the EOB just said "drug" so they want clarification. Then they said the hospital is charging $19000.00 per infusion and they only cover $10,000 a year. Even though that's not my out of pocket costs and most of that is written off by the insurance company. It's a huge hassle and has been stressing me out.

I have medicare and get Entyvio infusions. I'd imagine REMI is similar.
The book price is $15k' but medicares negotiated rate is $5k and Medicare pays 80% my supplemental policy pays the balance.
If you have CROHNS or any other chronic condition you must get either the supplemental or the advantage. Then you pay nothing for just about everything.

The advantage plans are usually free but your docs are restricted.

Jen is absolutely right remistart will not help with medicare. I was told they will help if you have no insurance at all. They are the absolute worst with helping!

I looked into this 4 months ago, and I have medicare.

My doctor told me it would cost me 600$ per infusion done at his office.

Doing my own research I found another option, but I never followed through.

My medicare part D benefit covers this medicine. It would cost me about 150$ per month, after the loading doses. Also you can apply with patient access network foundation. They cover Remicade for Crohn’s disease, and if you are approved they should cover several thousand dollars worth of it provided you can get it through medicare part D. They will not cover it through part B.

It took a lot of calling around but I found an infusion center that uses a home health care nurse who would bill medicare for the actual infusion part. I would have to pay a small fee for the supplies used. They stressed that it would have to be done in my home not at their office. Although they did tell me that the first infusion must be done at a doctors office, so it would be $600 for that one.

Finding a doctor to go along with all of this would be the hard part. He would have to do a lot more work to get the medicine to your home, but it most certainly is a possibility if you are determined.

I am still on Humira. I am in the Philippines, and it was hard enough getting Humira over here on the 20 hour plane ride.

How can I get my Remicaid infusion paid for ? My medicaid drop me after I turned 19 . 😞

The pricing of remicade may depend on how much of the medication you are using.

I receive about 700 ml and insurance is billed 16k they pay just under 8k
I have already met all my spending for the year so it's free for now.
After the new year remistart will pay for part of my deductible/ out of pocket to go towards the cost of the drug

If you have no insurance at all remistart with help you
The problem is with Medicare or Medicaid than you are not eligible for that
Also you cannot use remistart in conjunction with using your flex account for remicade infusions.
Maybe if you do it at the hospital they will give you a discount.
I had a very pricey hospital stay before I met my deductible and they cut a ton off of my bill. So maybe they can help.
