Pain to right of belly button?

Just a basic anatomical question....what is located right next to the belly button on the right side? Woke up getting waves of pain in that area.

I believe it's the terminal ileum. That's the exact place I get pain when I have an obstruction.

I know you are probably not a mom yet, but does the pain come in waves much like labor pain would? Are you able to pass gas or have a BM? The reason I ask, is that is where my obstruction pain was. If you start vomiting, I would suggest you head to the ER. Keep us posted and good luck!

Ah well I have Crohn's of the ileum, so makes sense. Though I've never really had pain here...then again most of my Crohn's is atypical.

Nanners--everything seems a-ok as far as BMs are concerned, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Your appendix is also near that area. I thought I had appendicitis when I got diagnosed :P I told my mom I'm going to die of a burst appendix cause I'm going to think its just CD pain >.<

Appendix pain would probably be a constant pain, wouldn't it? If it's more like "labor pains" that come and go, I'd guess Crohn's would be the more likely culprit. Also, I think the appendix is located in the lower right abdomen. But don't quote me on that smilewinkgrin.

I think you're safe when it comes to appendix because if you think it could be that you just try moving your right leg up and down and if it's too painful to do it or if you can't do it at all then you know it's your appendix. Other than that it's terminal ileum - I have an obstruction on my terminal ileum too so yeah, sometimes food gets stuck there and i have to lie on my left side and just wait for it to pass, or for the gas to pass. But it's better than it was before thanks to Imuran :) yay

Appendix pain can start in the belly button area. It doesn't always follow the rules so you should get it checked out.

One clue to appendicitis is rebound pain. That's when you press down on the area and it hurts more when you release it.

I agree with all the others, I have a stricture in my terminal ileum and that is exactly where it hurts when food cannot pass.  Usually it goes away after a couple of hours, and then I know that food managed to pass through the stricture.

when you have a stricture is the pain fairly constant (long term..hours?) or is it fleeting but very painful?
I'm trying to figure out what's going on with me lately...
severe pain and sometime nausea when i try to poop.
very painful and some bleeding now then pain is gone til next time...
but i do feel like i got punched in the gut after...

I get the severe, doubling up pain to the lower right of my abdomen (right of the belly button).

It is most certainly from an obstruction of some sort. I get it when I absentlindedly rush and take big bites of fatty food without chewing it properly. I have this bad habit with rush eating from my childhood.

about an hour or so after eating this type of rich or fatty food I get the throbbing nonstop pain that can amplify even by drinking water (it just adds to the pressue).

The pain is horrible and at 41 years of age I haven't found a doctor to date that is sure of what it is or had a clue to help me.

I have found that a full bottle of Magesium Citrate (about $1 at any pharmacy) with a cup of water acts as a sort of gentile "Drano" for the body and clears out most of the problem (most of the time) within an hour. You just have to be close to a bathroom between one to five hours after drinking.

I have a couple of times prematurely felt I was completely better (next day) and strated to eat normal again only to be quickly corrected by my body and drinking a second MC the next day. I, 95% of the time, only have used one bottle but on a rare couple of cases needed that second one the following day.

In my case, maybe luckily for me, I seem to be able to keep the obstruction at bay if my wife reminds me to chew my food properly (especially fatty foods) and not rush my eating. But due to bad habits I mess up once or twice a year and it happens again. Magesium Citrate has been my savior until I find a doctor that can help me.

I know having a digestive issue like this can only mean bad things down the line so after yesterday's horrible obstruction episode (worst ever) I am looking for a doctor that might specialize in this condition. As of now, I have only found regretful stories online from people having sugery to correct this. I also have found stories with fatal endings if an obstruction is severe and not treated quickly.

My advice to you is keep the Magnesium Citrate handy as even though it is a band aid in a sense it is getting you out of the danger zone of the obstruction toxifying your body, possible rupture to your intestine or even worse...

At least, like myself, until you find a doctor who can help...

Pain right of the belly button could be in the ileal or in the jejuneal area, the small intestines are moving around changing place all day. It's hard to say if it's the appendix making trouble or if it's some part of the intestines that is blocked / inflamed. To be sure, please, contact your GP or GI to figure out what this is. Having inflammation anywhere is serious, but having a troublesome appendix could be risky, because it could rupture.



What is Magnesium Citrate doing re an obstruction? Won't drinking water do the same? I'll try to find out if I can buy it OTC in my country. I am usually having obstructions a few times a year. But then they are really severe. Vomiting for 12 hours with severe pain and cascade vomiting, it's so painful and terrible. Therefore I would be happy to find the magnesium citrate. Is it liquid?

can i ask does a bowel obstruction show up on a colonscopy? that is how i was diagnosed but how do i know if i have one? i do feel plugged up at times and find it difficult to have a BM.

Yes an obstruction should show up with a CT scan.

If it is a partial obstruction, and the item/food in question has passed through it may not show up all that well.

Some more information could help do you have Crohn's?

Do not know if I have Crohn's. I will be making an appointment with my gp to get a referral. I had a right hemicolectomy in 2010. They also removed the valve from the small intestine to the large, so food just goes. I have had this stabbing pain, sometimes causing me to double over, off and on for several months. Have been to the er twice. First time because of blood. Second time just because of the pain. They did a ct and found nothing.

Why did you have a hemicolectomy? That might be a clue as to the problem you are having now.

The VA doctors, to humor me, agreed to do a colonoscopy because I was complaining so much. They flat out told me they didn't expect to find anything. Once in there, they found a 10cm tumor that was promptly removed. It was benign, but was the kind that typically turned cancerous. It has grown into the wall of my colon. The doctors told me that I needed to have the hemicolectomy. Shortly after being released from the hospital, I developed a blood clot at my superior mesenteric vein. I have factor 5 leiden from both sides of my family. I have also had my gall bladder and appendix removed.
