CMV & EBV

I tested positive for the Epstein-Barr years ago, but most people have or will have this herpes virus at some point in their lives. My severe fatigue was initially blamed on that (the old chronic fatigue syndrome dx) before I was finally diagnosed with Crohn's. I had Crohn's for about 25 years before getting diagnosed, so in a way, the Epstein-Barr diagnosis hindered my getting properly diagnosed and treated.

The CDC says that ~90% of adults will test positive for EB antibodies.

The other, I've heard of, but that's about it.

CMV test was negative. The EBV test will take a couple weeks.

A doctor diagnosed me with HSV2 in April, but I now realize I have had this for over 20 years. A doctor long ago told me it was just impetitigo so I have always thought it was that coming and going when my immune system was very suppressed. The doctor who diagnosed me in April gave me acyclovir. I took acyclovir by chance a couple months ago because of the horrible fevers, and fatigue just like why not try it. My fevers and flu like problems disappeared, and have stayed gone as long as I take it.

I also have swollen lymph nodes in my groin. They have been there for months now. I found a doctor who is going to biopsy them.

My problem could be HSV2, but it has never given me trouble like this.

A number of studies over the last 20 years have explored the link of EBV and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In one very small study, 63 percent of patients with Crohn’s disease and 60 percent of ulcerative colitis patients had active EBV infection within the gut tissue. Another study found that in those with active ulcerative colitis, the Epstein Barr Virus had accumulated within and under the lining of the gut and within lymphocytes....

Many of the lesions found in the inflamed bowel tissues showed active EBV viral replication. The active viral replication sets up a chronic snowball cycle of inflammation and viral activation within the gut.
