I tried to get a refill on my generic Donnatal (Belladonna Alkaloids with Phenobarbital) and the pharmacy said that it is no longer available.  The manufacturer has stopped making it.  :(

Has anyone else been told this?

Donnatal (Belladonna Alkaloids with Phenobarbital) This was a great spasmodic when I really needed it..I thought about asking for it again..I would be disappointed f I couldn't get it!

It is not listed on the FDA drug shortages list, but then it was never approved by the FDA so it may not show up on their list.

I just got my refilled on Thursday.  I never leave home without it.  Call your pharmacy back and have them check.

I had trouble getting belladonna the last few months, and it is GONE- yes, they stopped making the generic. And of course, itit'she only thing that saves me from attacks- I work on a boat and drive ~500 mi a week. UGH. Now I can only get pricey donnatal... that I can not afford..
Looking and hoping to find it at an online pharmacy? If anyone has any luck with that, please post, and I will do the same. Thanks

PBM who makes the name brand Donnatal is still making the pill and elixir but are having a hard time getting supplies from their manufacturer. This is why your getting the responses from the pharmacies. The generic form made by Westward Pharmaceuticals is still being manufactured and I found it at CVS. The name brand will be available but they don't know when. I personally called both pharmaceutical companies within the past hour. My Dr is just putting me on this drug for the first time and I have Celiac Disease so I needed to make sure it is gluten free. I am very thorough with my research...if you want the Donnatal you can ask your pharmacy to order from Westward or call around to different pharmacies. I hope this helps everyone.

Hi- I just saw your post flowers, and appreciate the info. I immediately called my pharmacy, and West-Ward was their supplier, and when the pharmacist looked it up, they are still no longer manufacturing it.

I am curious as to how you found out they are still making the generic donnatal, since he can not find it, nor is it listed on their website.

My pharmacist did tell me that the brand name jacked the price up when the generic stopped being manufactured. Another reason I do not want to pay their exorbitant price..... But it is the only thing that works for me.

Hi. I called Westward directly 800-858-4006 and spoke with Monica. At no time did she say its discontinued and its listed on their web site. As I mentioned CVS is carrying it. I hope this helps you. PlEase let me know how you make out.

No problem. I just picked up my script at the pharmacy about an hour ago and I asked the pharmacist if it was a difficult drug to keep in stock or if he heard about it being discontinued. He told me exactly what I found out. The name brand is on back order a few months but the generic by westward he's had no problem getting and hasn't been informed otherwise. I had taken Donnatol as a child because of severe cramping due to a sensitive stomach. about 5 years ago, I started back on Donnatal & it was in a generic form. Last week, I needed a refilled & CVS told me they have discontinued it in generic form. Now, it will cost me $69.00 instead of $10.00. They just decided to take it off the market, for no reason. Probably they weren't making any money as a generic & decided to stop making it. They don't even think about the people that are on social security or disable & can't afford the the brand name. They should be ashamed of themselves of thinking about there profit line & not about the ones that need this medication!

There has been no indication that West-Ward has restarted production of donnatal generic.

I checked with CVS and it is not available there nor has Cardinal Health indicated they have a supply.

I just went to cvs last night to get my script filled for the generic. The pharmacist said the generic is no longer being made but the brand name is available and would cost $40 with my insurance. I told him to fill 'er up!!

Generic Donnatal, the only thing that works for me with the severe cramping I get from IBS, is now available ONLY in trade form. There is NO generic available. I just paid $50 for 20 pills. There must be a substitute with the same ingredients that is available in generic (I pay only $7 for generic). The pharmacist told me the manufacturer of Donnatal is no longer making it in generic form.

If anyone knows of a medication that has the same or very similar ingredients to Donnatal, and is available in generic, please let me know. I have suffered from IBS for most of my life.

Why are they taking medications off the market that do work at a decent cost? I was on this drug at my worst with stomach and duod. involvement..They tried to switch me to regulan ect, and I did not tolerate it. Is it a matter of making more money for the drug companies? I heard they took it off the market, but I am not currently taking it. I guess it is just in the generic form. So the money it cost to make it is obviously is not the issue! How many more drugs are they going to do this to?

I was told the same thing today at my local "Mom and Pop" pharmacy. It was the last place I could get it. No longer is the generic being made, however the BRAND name IS available at 100x the price!! No joke. I have health insurance but (no surprise) Donnatal is not covered. However if I wanted the prescription filled, the cost would be (are you ready?). $1,250.00! This Donnatal has been my go to drug. But I used it sparingly and now I'm kicking myself for not getting all my refills done even if I didn't need it now! So now what? I'm search the Internet to see IF I can get it any where! Any suggestions would be gladly accepted! I have Crohns and diverticulitis trying to hold down my full time 12.5 shift X 3/wk! I find it getting more and more difficult!

Took Donnatal for many years. In 2013 the GI switched me to Bentyl which has worked better than Donnatal. Now it is the only antispasmodic that I use.
