I am 24 & 3 months ago I started having severe lower left quadrant pain and nausea. Also, for quite a while, I noticed I am losing hair. I had tests that showed I am very low on iron and my calprotectin was 526. I am also having sever eye pain and some joint pain. But my colonoscopy and Barium MRI showed no signs of crohns or colitis. They also took samples of my colon and they were negative for anything. The pain is ruining my life and I can't stay on pain pills!! Any ideas? Could it still be crohns? I do not have diahrea but I do have constipation almost always. I also have eye pain that comes and goes.

Unless you are having heavy menstrual periods they have to figure out if you are losing blood from somewhere and why you are so low on iron. Is your doc thinking of doing a pill cam? My guess is that something is wrong, but there are other things besides Crohn's that cause similar symptoms.

Thanks Gumby44 for replying. No, my periods are usually very light and usually only last 5 days. This past month it was heavier and more painful than usual though. I get the feeling the doctors are at the point of thinking there really isn't anything wrong. But when I have the eye pain, it's almost unbearable and the lower left quadrant abdomen pain never goes away. They now say its constipation but I'm taking marilax and going but it doesn't help. But after I go, the pain is worse!?!?!? They are not doing the pill cam as they say there are not signs of there being a problem. I just want to feel good again and finish my nursing school!!

Have you seen an ophthalmologist? If you have severe eye pain, you certainly need to. There are auto-immune related eye disorders such as uveitis or iritis. These sometimes happen when you have Crohn's disease, but sometimes they happen on their own. Your symptoms may also signify another autoimmune disease, not Crohn's but something else.

Yes, and my opthmologist doesn't seem concerned. He gave me eye drops to help with the pressure and drops for the pain but they aren't working. I can't help but believe my eye, low iron, joint swelling & pain, nausea and lower left quardrant pain and 526 calprotectin are related. I also had scalp sores and am on special shampoo and I had the worse canker sore this summer I have ever had in my life. They are saying most is just stress related :(. All in my head??!?

Are you on any meds which might lead to a false-positive calprotectin result, e.g. NSAIDs or PPIs? Otherwise I do find it odd that you have a high calprotectin result but a clean colonoscopy. Was the barium MRI of your small bowel?
Meanwhile, constipation can cause abdominal pain and nausea. I know you say you're going now, but it's possible to pass lots of little bits and still be constipated. Is there any possibility you could be backed up with stool?
Also, have sources of pain outside the colon been considered? Ovarian cyst, kidney stones, etc.?

I do take NSAIDs some. But 526 seems high to me and the low iron? I will keep taking marilax to see if it helps but so far it's giving me gas and loose stools. Thanks for helping :)

I had a kidney dye test and it was normal and a ct scan showed my ovaries were normal. I take miralax & like today had a big BM but afterwards the pain is worse. It like my colon is inflammed. I know this can't be all in my head!!!

Can you describe your eye pain? If it's iritis/uveitis it's important to get them dilated/get steroid drops. How often do you take the drops you were given?

My eye pain is achy and sometimes sharp. They are treating me for ocular hypertension with Latanoprost. They have no idea why I'm having this problem! 😒

Well, I'm glad you're taking some eye drops for your pain. I hope you take it easy on them too, resting them when you can. I'm very sorry!

They decided to run another calprotectin test and blood test checking my iron level again. If there are still questions this new GI doc wants to do an endscopic and maybe pill cam. He seems more interested in me than my other GI doc.
