Hi all,

I'm pretty sure I'm in a Crohn's flare up right now. My blood work showed inflammation but my fecal calprotectin test was 42 and in the normal range. Has anyone else experience a normal test while in a flare up?

Mine is really low....18 and I have active c.difficile, which is supposed to drive the fecal calprotectin up, so it is confusing. We think my Crohn's is in remission, but I am having a lot of symptoms, so I don't know. I have read that if your disease is primarily in your small intestine and not your colon, then the fecal calprotectin is not as accurate.

I have UC, unremitting for 18 months. My last two calprotectin tests were low, "normal". That test does not seem to correspond to my symptoms. I had low calprotectin while have 8+ bm's per day and blood and mucus in the stool most of the time; clearly inflamed.

My fecal calprotectin levels are always normal despite symptoms and colonoscopies showing active disease.

My FC is always within normal ranges, but my GI said that is because my disease involves the small bowel only. I have read somewhere that a high FC level is a positive indicator for IBD activity, but that a negative can not rule out that your IBD is flaring.
