I just got a call from my doctor with results from my capsule endoscopy about two weeks ago. They were strongly leaning towards a crohns diagnosis, and thought this would be the final puzzle piece. However, they didn't see anything indicative of crohns/uc, but my doctor did call saying that he had never seen what he saw on mine before, or ever heard of it happening. I wanted to reach out to the forum to see if anyone has any information or guidance for me.
So he calls. And he says, "I've never seen anything like what happened during your capsule endoscopy. I've never seen it or heard of it happening... your capsule dropped down like normal into your stomach, hung out in your stomach for an hour, then traveled down your small intestine for three hours, and then it traveled back up and ended up in your stomach again."
He said its not uncommon to see the capsule go into your small intestines and then pop back into your stomach a few minutes later. But mine traveled 3 hours down, around this "hump" we apparently have in our intestines that prevents things from moving back up and then it moved all the way back up.
Then he said I ate the soup like advised, and he couldn't see anything else.
He was pretty worried that the pill cam never came out and was stuck in me. He wanted to send me to get an X-ray until I told him I was 110% positive I saw it come out.
He said it could be a fluke. It's possible that I could do another pill cam tomorrow, and it could go down just fine. But because he's NEVER seen anything like this happen, he has to investigate.
I was diagnosed with superior mesenteric artery syndrome a couple of years ago, when I was at my sickest. He said he thinks there may be a connection between that sma syndrome I had. So the office is calling me tomorrow to set up a certain type of endoscopy that will apparently go much further into me.
What do you guys think? Ever heard of something like this happening? Any connections to SMAS? Any information about the extensive endoscopy?
Thank you in advance!!
