I have crohns colitis and I am taking lialda and know there are several things I cannot take because of the lialda but can someone please tell me what they would take for a cold?

Dayquil and Nyquil. Actually, I was on Lialda for over a year at the highest possible dose, and I was never told that I shouldn't take other medications. In fact, I was strongly encouraged to take whatever cold medication would work in order to avoid a sinus or ear infection, which would come more easily with the Lialda.

Thank you for answering - my doctor did tell me not to take aleve or advil while taking lialda. Yu don't take lialda any longer - I was told I would be on it the rest of my life - I think I like your doctor better!

You really need to stay away from any anti-inflammatory meds, or aspirin, advil and alleve as you mentioned.

Any other cold med should be fine. If you need a pain med, stick with Tylenol.

Is Lialda controlling your symptoms?

Yes, any NSAID should be avoided, but that's with Crohn's in general, not just with Lialda.

I am on Remicade infusions. Lialda just never worked for me - I was on 40 mg of prednisone for 10 months, hoping Lialda would start working. It never did. When we combined it with Imuran, I got pancreatitis, so I actually now have all mesalamines listed as an "allergy" along with the Imuran/6mp.

Lialda is actually not very effective with Crohn's. Studies show that it works about the same as a placebo. If it is working for you, then great!

73monte - I was diagnosed in June last year and other than the enemas at first to cool down uc - lialda has been great. My doctor told me I was one of the lucky ones. I have no symptoms - I have found a lot of things that I cannot eat so leave them alone. I thank God I am doing well. We are retired and really have little social life so that is good for me. I take Culturelle and eat a lot of Activia. Hope you are doing well.
