Anyone here switch from REMICADE to another Biologic?

with any success? and by Biologic i mean an infusion RX such as Entyvio, etc. I've been on Remicade for over 5 years and it def stopped working sometime in late 2014. Can you just switch over to another or do you have to purge your system first? also any dangers from jumping from to another? any advice is much appreciated.

Yes I switched from infliximab (remicade) to Humira (which I appreciate is not an infusion, rather self giving via syringe). I had no break between (had Humira loading doses shortly after an infliximab infusion). Don't know whether there were any dangers. Humira took a while to kick in for me but things have at last turned around.

I switched from Remicade to Humira to Cimzia and eventually to Entyvio. There's no system purge needed. You just need to wait until you'd be due for your next dose of the first biologic before switching to the second. Remicade worked for 6 months for me, Humira worked for 9 years, Cimzia never worked, and I've been doing great on Entyvio for a year and a half.

I've switched a few biologics without having to wait any amount of time. As with anything else whether you have success with a new biologic depends on the person. I didn't do well with Cimzia or Humira. I have a friend that seems to be having Entyvio fail her. Hopefully they find one that works well for you.

My GI recommended that I start Entyvio while still taking Humira because Entyvio takes months to show effects.

really? both at the same time. I have to stop Remicade because its no longer working for me. I think my doc is leaning towards Entyvio. Wonder if he'll overlap the 2 meds...

I started with Humira and then went to Remicade. The long infusions were tough for me with a full time work schedule, so I just recently stopped it and started Cimzia injections. I was told that I cannot go back on Humira or Remicade due to the likelihood of having developed antibodies and possibly having a reaction. I did well with all of the above switches. I have switched from med to med, but not a quick jump between any biologics... always at least a few weeks in between. I haven't heard of anyone overlapping biologics, only oral medications like Imuran, 6MP, and Methotrexate and then a biologic. Are they leaning toward starting the new infusions while you're on Remicade or just stopping Remicade and then hopping over to the Entyvio for the next dose?
