I've never heard of this complication from having Crohn's. Sounds like it's getting to be a pretty desperate situation. So sad indeed.

Crohn’s disease leads to inflammation that causes scars within the bile ducts. These scars gradually result in serious liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver failure.

I think they've got that bit wrong.

It's the girl's PSC which would have caused inflammation of the bile ducts, not the Crohn's. PSC is more common in people with IBD, though.

Anyway, it's pretty sad. I hope she gets her liver transplant.

Prayers for such a beautiful little girl.

NCOT. i disagree, I've had a couple of doctors who ordered scans of my bile ducts to check for any damage that they said could be caused by crohns.

This little sweetie lives in the same small community outside of Ottawa that I do. She attends brownies with our neighbor. The damage is indeed from Crohn's disease. Our community is doing everything we can to help her find a new liver.

Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Gianna-Lynn had Crohn’s disease and, more seriously she had primary sclerosing cholangitis, which causes inflammation in the bile ducts, and has badly damaged Gianna-Lynn’s liver

Even the article says otherwise. I've never heard of Crohn's disease being a primary cause of liver damage, certainly not to the point of liver failure.

I sure will. She has a Facebook page you can follow if you like. Gianna-Lynn, age 8, needs a liver transplant. I am not on HW very often anymore......way too much drama but I will let you know 73monte.

Hi there,

First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about this young girl and i will pray for the best of all outcomes for her.....

And i wanted to mention that my daughter has autoimmune hepatitis, and IBD is not unseen in children with autoimmune liver diseases which does, in fact, include PSC (primary sclerosing cholangitis) and also PBC (primary biliary cirrhosis). Crohn's disease doesn't cause liver failure that i've heard of, but all of the above diseases can...crohn's, of course, causes other complications and difficulties to the digestive tract.

Again, I sure hope they find a donor for her soon....xo
