Anything to do to calm perianal fistula pain down? Can't sleep.

Had my 4th Remicade infusion beginning of the week. As usual had post dose symptoms especially watery diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. My GI said that d will only be controlled by Imodium.
Took infusion in week 7. Since week 6 both fistula pain and proctitis have become literally unbearable. My GI told me to stop taking pentasa suppositories but I told him I scream out of rectal pain.
Sleepless nights have become a norm because of fistula pain. Is there anyway or a home-made remedy that soothes this pain? I don't know when would remicade kick in. Last dose, it kicked in very quickly and wore off too quickly. I wish I could sleep w/o pain cry

Have you tried a microwaveable heating pad? That has been the only home remedy that has helped soothe rectal pain besides warm baths. Did your GI tell you why he wanted you to stop taking the suppositories? Does he think that's what's causing all the aggravation in that area? I ask because my colorectal surgeon told me no suppositories with a fistula, but my GI just prescribed me Canasa and said it should be fine..conflicting opinions from my docs as usual.

Would topical pain creams like lidocaine the GI could prescribe help? I know when I had mine active it was beyond a 10 even with the topical cream but it did take the edge off for a little while. I really hope the remicade kicks in for you soon!

Do you have a colo-rectal surgeon? Generally for me, my fistula doesn't hurt unless they are infected or abscessed. If it's really bad I think it warrants a doctor visit for pain meds, that pain can be absolutely debilitating.

I'm the same as Myrne.
Mine doesn't hurt unless the fluid is blocked up.
Just a little bit of pressure with a finger drains the fluid and I feel better.
Also, if my remicade is delayed, then I might have a small fistula ache, but it's never made mine hurt.
I would live in a bath tub full of hot water if it did!
Has your blood been tested recently for signs of infection???

sorry you are going through this. sitz baths, and rotating seton back and forth halfway though, to make sure its drainning... brings me some relief

Super super hot baths were the only thing that helped me. Sorry, I know how you feel. I went 4 nights straight without sleep, which made the pain even worse. Ask you doc for strong pain meds and ask how many you are allowed to take in an emergency.

Electric or microwavable heating pads are so soothing and really help ease the pain.

Dear all, thank you very much. I tried sitz baths and hot water bags while sleeping and they were really very effective. The problem I suffer now from is my proctitis. I was constipated for 5 days and the bm I had was very thin. So, I took one of the steroid suppositories and felt that my rectum is very much swollen.
