Has anybody ever had Salmonella. I got it the beginning of June. Was thinking my current symptoms were a flare from that. Today doc said I need to be rechecked. I don't have the diarrhea anymore. Have bloody mucous. which is my normal flare symptoms.

I have had salmonella. Were you put on antibiotics for it? Might want to do a c. diff. test. I can't distinguish between any of them: flare, salmonella, c. diff., giardia, etc. There's not real good way to tell other than to do stool samples to check, and if the stool samples are negative, then give prednisone a try!

I had a round of Cipro. Will be rechecked tomorrow. I am starting on Prednisone in the morning and Flagyl. If I test positive again, then I suppose that will change. Did your symptoms go away after the antibiotics? The D stopped, just bloody mucous and rectal pain.

Had salmonella in Dec. At first I thought it was a flare ... But soon realised it was soooo much worse. BP 60/40, CRP 199, just water diarrhoea, heart rate 100+ (I'm normally around 45-55), excruciating pain.

Given amoxicillin and flagyl plus electrolytes. I refused admission to hospital as just sick of going in there - so doc said I could have 24hrs and if I didn't improve she would insist. Said I was too ill to leave the house so arranged for bloods etc to be taken and home and did a home visit following day.

Took almost full course of antibiotics to improve but did get over it within about 10 days. Did have another round of frequent D etc around April time but I didn't think this was related as it was a normal dip (not bad enough to call a flare).

I had Salmonella shortly after my Crohn's diagnosis, and like others mentioned, I thought it was a flare and stayed quite ill for months until they finally tested my stool. Cipro cleared it up. I did not have bloody stool with it, and I'm thinking that it might be your Crohn's causing that. It's good your doc is re-testing.

I started the flagyl and prednisone last night. Took today. My muscles are achy. Wondering if this is the flagyl. anybody??

Cipro is the treatment of choice rather than Flagyl for Salmonella. Any I idea why your doc chose Flagyl? Any yeah, you might have side effects from any antibiotic, but as long as it is just achy and not pain, you should be ok

Thanks for the responses. I tested positive again. No D, feeling better, but still some bloody mucous that is smelly.
The doc put me on 50 mg of Prednisone and the Flagyl, before I got my results back, thinking the Cipro caused me to flare, and stopped the Entecort. So today when called with positive results, wants me to do another round of Cipro. I was on 50 mg of Prednisone that I took for 5 days, today took Entecort. So feels funny stopping the Prednisone without tapering.
Also I have hemmrhoids now bad. So using suppositories w/ steroid in them.
sigh
Is it ok to just stop the steroids like that?
I was thinking I would start the Cipro tomorrow.
Any suggestions?

I think stopping pred is fine, especially since it was only 5 days snd you are on entocort.

Clarified. Only take the Cipro. I will also take Probiotics. Praying this all clears up. I hate being on the antibiotics for so long!
