Tooth extraction/implant on Remicade, methotrexate, Apriso

Hi,
I usually follow the UC board, but I'm posting this here,too. My daughter has been told to extract a tooth and have an implant. There will be grafting material and the implant itself going in, foreign matter.

Has anyone had experience with these medicines and this kind of dental work. Of course there will also be antibiotics, used in the process.

We have asked the drs and dentists, if they've had other cases like this but you just don't get a firm yes or no.

She's not on steroids but I don't know if there's bone compromise from her medicines and worry about a jaw fracture, and rejection of foreign materials. I worry about a lot.

Ugh, I've had so much dental work while being on all these medications. Extractions, fillings, root canals, you name it. Never any issues with the medications, although the antibiotics always killed my stomach. I haven't had an implant however, but I have heard that we can have issues with them. With it not healing too well and our body accepting them. Something to ask about for sure.

I had a root canal while on Humira and it failed so I ended up still having to get the tooth extracted. The dentist acted like getting an implant should not be an issue however when I asked the oral surgeon that did my extraction about my concerns he said with the Crohns and Humira he would consider me in a higher risk group for rejection and the implant failing. Mine is a back molar that you cannot see so for now I have opted to do nothing.

If you do have the implant make sure they wait at least 6 mos and do another X-ray to check for sufficient bone growth before putting that screw in for the implant.
