Worried about future with Crohn's disease

Welcome to the forum. When my son was dx last year at age 19 it was right before his freshman year of college. There were so many questions about how he would physically feel - what would happen - should he go etc and we did take one day at at time. He moved in, started classes / started working / joined intramural sports / found a girlfriend / pulled all night study sessions / learned to drink coffee etc etc. Just like all the other college students. What wasn't the same was that he ended up in the hospital two times spring quarter (once for an obstruction and once for an illeo cecal resection). He missed lots of days BUT he kept going - just like his fellow students. He showed me that it does not and will not stop him - even when he hits road blocks. I highly recommend registering with the disability resource center on campus. They sent out emails to each professor stating my son has a recognized disability with full accommodation (they don't specify what the disability is). If he chose (which he has not) he could have endless time for tests in rooms with bathrooms. He cannot be failed for missing classes and he can obtain extra time to complete assignments IF he has a flare up, in the hospital etc. As a mom I was terrified BUT now I am not. This forum is one of the reasons. SO MUCH collective and supportive wisdom! I wish you the best!
