Has anyone here had their tubes tied? More specifically after having abdominal surgery for your Crohns!?

I'm contemplating this since I need to stop my birth control pill due to my PSC and I'm not happy with my other bc options. I absolutely do not want to be pregnant or have children at this point so the finality of this doesn't bother me. More the concerns of adhesions or additional surgery and scar tissue.

At my ileoscopy my GI was surprised that I had no adhesions and how healthy everything looked. So I don't want to risk causing any complications but I also am very worried about being off the pill.

Any advice or thoughts!? I have an appointment with my GI, hepatologist, and OBGYN at the end of the month so will be getting all their input but would like patient input too!

If I had to stop birth control, I would seriously consider this. I take continuous birth control and haven't had a period in more than four years because it worsens my GI symptoms and causes horrible migraines. Being able to medically stop periods has been a tremendous help and I can't imagine having to go back to a normal cycle.

Obviously, there are risks to any surgery so you'll have to balance those out. I'd definitely have a candid talk with your OBGYN and GI.

thats a tough decision to make. Im glad i dont have to worry about making it. Ever since i was diagnosed with crohns my husband doesnt even touch me. So therecore i dont have to worry about getting pregnant. 7 children was enough for me.

Since you're confident you don't want kids and you know you don't have adhesions, it sounds like a good option for you. I have not had my tubes tied but I work in the operating room and it's a simple procedure. Are you a candidate for a non-hormone IUD?

platinumpixie- From what I read online it does seem like a very simple procedure glad to hear from someone who knows something IRL. My obgyn wants me to consider both IUDs, hormonal and non. I have decided against both. With 2 autoimmune diseases I have had a lot of weird reactions to things and the thought of putting a foreign object in my body really scares me. My gut tells me that is the wrong choice for me and I know my body pretty well.

On the phone my obgyn seemed more like she wanted me to consider an IUD because it isn't final. But I am 38 and with my liver issues am a very high risk pregnancy. I have done the research and have no desire to risk my life for a baby. If I really want a child there a plenty already born that need a family!

I see my obgyn in 2 weeks and my liver doc and GI in 3 so I am very interested to get all of their opinions as I have thought about this for awhile and know this is what I want.

I got an IUD. I didn't want to be bothered with pills, or with my period. I would have gone with the copper, it lasts 10 years, but I didn't want periods so I got a Mirena. I still get light spotting here and there, but nothing too crazy, definitely not a period like we are used to. I would consider a tubal too, but i don't want to have a procedure. I guess the tubal would be a good option, considering it's long term. The placement of the IUD was pretty awful. I read some people do novasure with a tubal and that stops periods. I almost wish i could have done that.

Cupcake - I obviously don't know anything about your situation or whether you are married, but if you are married have you had any talk with your husband about a vasectomy? Put the burden on him...

NSSG- I have heard the placement is not pleasant, especially if you have not had kids. My GIs PA said in a lot of cases they have to dialate your cervix if you have never had a vaginal birth. It sounds awful to me. Worse than another small surgery. The procedure doesn't bother me mostly but adhesions/scar tissue do worry me and not sure how much of an affect this small of a procedure can have. If it is minimal risk it is my first choice.

Bania- We have discussed a vasectomy. My obgyn also suggested we research that along with the IUD. While he 100% agrees that he does not want me pregnant even if we did decide to have a family, he is unsure about sterilizing either of us. He is not excited about anyone having what he calls an "unnecessary" procedure. He thinks a more old fashioned method like a condom will be fine. I disagree and it is starting to affect our sexual relationship bc I'm stressed/freaked out about getting pregnant. i am being patient bc my several hospitalizations and 3 surgeries in one year took a toll and he has been a saint. I think mostly he wants nothing to do with a hospital for awhile. He is thinking short term risks and I'm thinking more long term. To me the risk of another small procedure seems less risky then the long term risks to my health of I get pregnant and my liver craps out!
