Proctitis and/or localized Crohn's

You sound like you've got what my brother's got. As far as I know, it's never been called localized Crohn's in his case; just Crohn's or proctitis. He always calls it Crohn's.

He's had it for about 17 or 18 years and has been in remission most of the time. Don't think his disease has ever spread as far as I know (we're not close, so we don't talk about this sort of stuff together). He's had a way, way easier time with his Crohn's than I've had with mine (which was in the terminal ileum/colon).

With any luck, your disease course will resemble my brother's rather than mine. No real advice. Just keep on top of your symptoms and up the enemas if need be. Suppositories might help too. If rectal meds stop helping, go back to your doc and get on some stronger medication ASAP. Steroids should be used as sparingly as possible.

I'm sort of the same as you. I've been diagnosed with crohn's colitis, small patch in the descending colon but most of the disease is in my rectum.

Like you I was expecting Ulcerative Colitis, and I wish it had been as it seems a bit easier to manage and less likely to develop fistulas, etc. I'm currently on pentasa suppositories and while they've largely stopped my mucus farts, gas/blood splatters and mucus-only bowel movements (I say mostly because I've recently been sick with a cold and I went downhill a bit while I was), I'm still not 100%. I've been only them for nearly 6 weeks.

I'm going back to my doctor this week to see if there are other rectal meds like enemas I can try before considering other options (oral steroids not much of an option for me as I'm pre-diabetic). From what I've read and the way my GI talks, regardless of whether its UC or crohn's colitis, they tend to treat them the same when its mild (which mine is)
