This is the first time that I'll have posted here on this forum... I'm 26 years old and have had Crohn's since I was 18. Had an ileocolectomy in 2012 after a severe flare and a doctor that didn't ever believe me when I told him how much pain I was in... It took a trip to the ER for a CT scan to show just how bad off I was and needed surgery immediately. Thankfully I then found a new doctor who has me on Remicade and while it really doesn't completely control my Crohn's... it keeps the flares down to a tolerable number. I've been with my doctor for the last four years and am very upset that I am having to leave him. It's so hard to come by doctors that will understand you and listen to you when you tell them your body isn't feeling like it should be.
My husband has found a job in Virginia and while I hadn't planned for everything to move so quickly, it is happening. With moving to another State, I am changing insurances and will need to find a new doctor ASAP. Not only does that mean a new GI doctor, that means a new primary as well. Seeing as my new insurance is a HMO plan I will need referrals for any kind of treatment to see a specialist doctor as well as my remicades. Go figure my next Remicade is on the 3rd of January... right after my current insurance is up. Unfortunately, I will not be able to move up my Remicade because I receive them every six weeks and insurance will not cover them any sooner than exactly six weeks or a little after six weeks. :( This leaves me in a very stressful spot where I will likely go without a treatment for several weeks if I am unable to get in to see doctors in an almost immediate manner. I have talked to my doctor and he has recommended a doctor in the area in which we are moving(Manassas VA), but they have been very difficult to get a hold of and I have read online that while they are good doctors, they take a while to get appointments with. This has me so worried. I get symptoms almost 2 weeks before my treatment date, so I am already feeling really crummy. My pain only gets worse if I wait longer than my treatment date... I do NOT want to go to the ER because of lack of treatment. I had a flare three months ago that landed me in the ER and then admitted to the hospital for nearly two weeks. I do NOT want to do that again. :(
My question is this... Is anyone familiar with any doctors in the Manassas, VA area that they would recommend?
